The local nursery is geared to outdoor growing there are maybe a dozen "house plants" there. all run of the mill stuff half are "seasonal" their supplies are terrible. I sifted through a jumbled mess to find iron supplement. felt lucky that I found it.. there were herbicides in fert section and fert in with the insecticides.. I could special order a soil tester but they won't get shipment till spring??? *o* when I moved here 13 some odd yrs ago I had applied for an accounting job there. I'm glad that I turned it down. I can't imagine what their books look like.. The work would have been seasonal and conflict with time with kids. So I opted not to take the job after great consideration. I had briefly thought I could learn about plants and such working there. but I think I have learned more from books etc than I could have learned there. Any way... back to the matter at hand.. As I just watered with a normal fert amount. I will have to wait on the iron sup. Dale.. the potting medium is.. pine (I think it was pine) chips, sand, cactus mix, orchid mix, perilite, peat and potting soil. The pine chips are a newly added to the seedlings mix and George does not have the pine. I am fairly sure they are just screaming for food as they haven't had any in over 3 months. I was going to resume feeding after George got better but was unsure about feeding them during winter. Guess I am keeping them happy enough other wise that they are still growing and needing nutrients. I have never given them iron supplement before. I know that the pail leaves don't look too bad.. but I don't want to wait till they do look TOO bad. don't think the seedlings will be as forgiving about deficiencies as an older plants.. I ended up getting the Starphire but couldn't get the showerguard. One local company said they "used" to order it but since you can't see it on the glass, they had all sorts of trouble with it being on the wrong side or them installing it backwards? My doors were just installed yesterday and I love the low iron glass! Now I am trying to get one of the glass coatings done-diamonfusion. I think it runs about $150 so it wouldn't have been much more to get the showerguard if it was possible. I guess it all depends on where you live. We could have ordered from about 2 hours away but we were worried that if we had a problem, it would be tough to get them back out!

The glass in question will be the railing for my stairs. The location of the stairs is such that you will only see the glass from a sharp angle, either at the bottom looking up at the glass or at the top looking down. There's really no way to look straight through the glass. There is nothing interesting to see on either side of the glass, just the brown wood floors and gray walls in the stairway. I don't care if the colors aren't true. What I'm worried about is, when you are looking at the glass at a sharp angle, if you will see a band of green glass rather than seeing what is on the other side of the glass. Picture tinted windows on a car. When you look directly at them you can see through them more clearly. But if you look at a sharp angle, you just see the tint and don't clearly see through to the other side (depending on how dark the tint is). This is what I worry about -- as you approach and enter the stairs, will regular 1/2" glass look like a translucent wall of green or will it still be clear? (I know the edges will be green, I'm not talking about that.) I don't want to spend more for the low iron but in the big scheme of things it's not a ton of money so I can justify it if it will make a difference.

The back flush of an iron filter removes the iron as a solid which can cause the soil surface to plug in your drainfield. This can lead to premature failure of your septic system. My guess is that low-iron septic system option would have the iron filter backflush discharged separately and not into the septic drain.
