Do any of you have a favorite place online to save recipes that is free and doesn't have unnecessary restrictions & privacy issues?

I've used Recipe Circus for years. They haven't upgraded much, so it's looking old fashioned but it's fine for me and makes it easy to store recipes and quick to post them on here when needed. You can give the site a name that only you know to make your recipes more private.

I use Recipe Circus, too. Yes I am a Kitchen Klown, lol. I helped them beta test it...drove 'em crazy trying to use diacritics and punctuation marks, hehe.

I think it's pretty dumb looking, but it works well and the search works great. I use it often, plugging in the ingredients I have on hand. Not sure how it is lately, but it used to be mostly tried and true recipes.

DH and I have the paper organization divided. I keep the things like manuals, kid's papers, health insurance, etc. in small hanging folder baskets on top of a bookshelf. DH keeps track of monthly bills and investments, etc. He has a cubbie hole system on top of one of his desks and items are divided up into those cubbies. That way he can easily find a current bill, the stack of donation places when we review in December, etc. We each have home office spaces in this house, but in our previous house I just kept things on the top of the cabinet in the formal dining room. It wasn't pretty, but it was easy to use. We keep no paper in the kitchen. Paper and kitchen counters just don't mix for us. DH use to open the mail and then restack it right next to the stove. Harping on him didn't change that, so I gave him a couple of warnings that anything paper piled on my counters would be trashed. I told him that I didn't keep my pots and pans stacked on his desk, so using the food prep space for paperwork was making my life difficult. After having me throw away all of the bills and everything else in the pile, he finally decided he could make the effort to walk a few steps and put it elsewhere. We are not really filers. More specifically, organized pilers. Our files are things which we rarely need. My piles hang, his piles are cubbies. Works for us right now. Gloria

I am like OldFixer - I have recipes on index cards, printed off from my printer, in folders, binders, etc.! I am so thankful for Pinterest now and have recipes saved on that board in categories. But many years ago before Pinterest I decided that it was too time consuming to type out all my recipes to do an on-line cookbook, so I just sorted the newspaper clipping, written recipes, etc. by category and put them in a large 10 x 13-inch and just wrote the category on the envelope - they are stored in a file cabinet. So if I want a particular "zucchini" recipe, I only have to search that envelope. Appetizers, salads, crock pot, meat dishes, rhubarb recipes, vegetables, etc. But if I am having a holiday dinner such as Thanksgiving, I started a 3-ring binder and put all the recipes I have ever used for that holiday dinner whether it be appetizers, the turkey, side dishes and desserts, and then add a page with the year and menu we had. I use page protectors in that binder and refer to it every year.

Can a .doc file be Changed to a PDF. file?

There is also a free download called CutePDF writer. Once you download/install it shows up just like a printer so you go to print your document, select this option, and it creates a PDF file and saves it to your hard drive. We use this at work and I also use it at home.

How do you save recipes you find online?

I copy and paste into a Word document then place in an appropriate folder. I have a recipe folder and within that folder have folders for Appetizers, Breads, Breakfast, etc. And, occasionally, within those folder have other folders; for example, in the Beverage folder there are additional folders, one for Alcoholic and one for Non-Alcoholic. In the Vegetable folder, there are folder for Legumes with additional folders, Root Vegetables with additional folders. You get the idea. These are saved in an external drive. And are very easy to locate. Forgot to say that the folders are on the computer, not actual paper folders. I don't print a recipe until I am ready to use it. Also just remembered to say that I keep these in a master folder called "Recipes to Try." If we don't like the finished product, the recipe is deleted. If we do like the finished product, the recipe is moved to another folder called "My Favorite Recipes." I make notes on these as to when I made it and who was present to eat it and favored it.

I use DropBox. It's not a recipe site but rather an online storage solution. It's free for 2GB of storage. I love it because it has apps for Droid, IPad and IPhone so I always have my recipes with me when I'm shopping. If I find something on sale, I can reference my recipes, decide on a recipe to use the sale item and grab any additional ingredients I may need while I'm at the store.

i also have my files of recipes on recipe circus.....was nervous at first...as i have my favorite recipes on it, and if it was gone, so would be my recipes..but they have been here for years and years....

I have just started using Pepperplate. It is supposed to sync up on all of my 'gadgets.' So far, all I've done is load 4 recipes, which is very very easy. I am hopeful that if I get to the grocery and want to make X but can't remember the recipe, I will be able to access the site from my phone and get the recipe. I first saw information about Pepperplate.com on Chow.

I also have a Word file with my most used recipes.

Thanks all for replying. Recipe Circus sounds like it's tried and true. DropBox and Pepperplate sound good too, especially being able to pull up recipes at the grocery store. I will have to check them all out. Thanks again!
