When DH buys premade pizzas, we always add other toppings like cooked crumbled bacon, onions, green peppers, sometimes extra cheese. Go ahead, add whatever you like as long as your sausage is precooked, no problem!

I always add my own toppings. I usually buy the 4-Cheese pizza and then add pepperoni, green olives, mushrooms, etc. Sometimes, I sprinkle a little extra cheese on top. I usually just bake for the time listed on the package and it works fine. I am not sure, however, if green peppers will cook enough in that amount of time or if they will still taste "raw". (They are my least favorite pizza topping, so I have never tried it.)

My question is why are you so dead set on a boxed pizza instead of making your own? I'm not being nasty, just curious???

When I add toppings to a boxed pizza I always sprinkle a bit more mozzarella and parmesan cheese over the top to hold the topping on. I usually bake it for a few extra minutes. I always cook sausage, onions, and chopped green peppers before adding them. If I am using fresh mushrooms instead of jared I also cook those.

Yep - I add toppings to frozen pizza too. Saute the onions, peppers and/or mushrooms in a bit of EVO before putting them on the pizza. Cook crumbled sausage until no longer pink. Mozzarella on the top is a great "glue" as Joanne mentioned above.

I do bake the pizza as much as 10 minutes longer to be sure everything is heated through in the middle (and often put it under the broiler for the last few minutes). Nothing worse than encountering a frozen bite.

HI Changeling, I will sometimes buy the premade - but not frozen - but not cooked either - pizzas from WalMart/Sam's. I dice onion, gr pepper and mushrooms and saute them in olive oil. Since the pizza doesn't bake too long, and I don't like crunchy uncooked toppings.

Then I cover the pizza with the cooked topping and bake the recommended amt of time. Sometimes I even just add the cooked toppings after it's come out of the oven!

Yum! a very quick no mess supper.

Making your own pizza takes lots of pre-planning, and the outcome isn't always good, I've made my own as a novelty, otherwise, Domino Delivers.

You can add anything you want, I like fresh tomatoes, I usually add a lot of sauce, there's never enough for my taste, and lots of cheese and seasonings. You generally don't need to cook it longer, once it looks done, it's usually done.

I understand exactly what you have said and really appreciate it. I just didn't want to ruin something.

dixiedog- I am not dead set against making my own and didn't say that I was. When I get the kitchen finished I will probably mess with making my own for kicks like momj47 does just to see how it go's.
One of my big reasons for "boxed Pizza" is when I am in a hurry to eat and take off, or I just don't feel like getting involved cooking anything.

I know this posting is way old, but when I was searching for the same answer I found your question form 2008.

So i did some testing myself.

If you buy a pizza already cooked, no problem. 375 degrees, Make sure all meats are pre cooked and I added my veggies in the microwave for 4 minutes before putting them on the pizza. This softened them. I put the pizza in the center of the oven for 15 minutes.I also melter some butter and rubbed it on the crust so it wouldn't burn then put foil around the edges to protect the crust form burning.
The cheese melted and the pizza was awesome!!!

Frozen Pizza. Just add about 5-10 additional minutes to cook time and put on lower rack so dough gets cooked. Also, thaw out the frozen pizza a few hours before cooking and it will be great!

Sorry all these other answers all referred to what you already knew. Maybe in 2011 we can all finally rest on this:)
