Kneading Dough...

So, when it comes to dough, the more you work it (knead it) the lighter and fluffier your bread, etc with be? I tried making another loaf this past weekend and it didn't rise nearly as mush as the last one, nor is it light and fluffy. I do know that I did not knead the dough as much this time.

Is kneading something I need to work on?
