If the door hits the floor and then reverses it is traveling too far in the down direction. Here is the way it works. When the door hits the floor, the motor stalls and the interrupter cup quits spinning and the RPM sensor board quits sending a pulse to the logic board. The logic board reverses the motor and the door opens. What needs to be done is figure out why the 'down limit' is not working or if it is just out of adjustment. The easiest way to do this is remove the cover of the motor unit and watch the limit switch assembly while the door is closing. Turn the down limit several turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. This should get the door to stop short of hitting the floor. Now some tweaking will be involved to get it right. You have it right about the thermal protector. It is to protect the motor from over heating and sometimes seems a pain you know where.

Just done for fun and to add a little interest. Our KD actually really liked it, too, and said she has sold three more kitchens since ours done similarly. Now, back to the floor... here's something I forgot to mention. I have looked at hundreds (if not thousands) of floors in every store and showroom in my area, and I have dragged home dozens. And probably 95% of the floor samples that *look like* nice/neutral colors, when held next to the granite, go PINK, or GREEN, or PEACH, or ORANGE, or GRAY. It is crazy! My DH thought I was kidding until I dragged home a huge pile of samples on Friday and he saw it for himself. It's just the DANGDEST thing! ;o) So this particular floor (the Tarkett FF) is one of probably only FIVE that I have found in my relentless search that truly blends with the granite. I love color, but I think I like the idea of a medium value, neutral, but beautiful floor. I want the kitchen to feel open, light, inviting, warm and soft. Nothing stark or dramatic for this space. Does that make sense? Jennibg, I would certainly consider some cottage style stone look flooring (as long as the color[s] blended with my granite, of course!)... do you have any links? Thanks all! Thank you ALL for your input and opinions. I appreciate every one of them! Jen, extending the oak hardwood is not really an option, for several reasons. Good thought, though! I do like the look of wood in a kitchen, and I agree, it would be a timeless, classic look. But all things considered, I think I would prefer a different flooring surface in the kitchen. But they are ceramic, no? I just don't want ceramic in my kitchen at this time. I drop too many things, and live in a TUNDRA climate!!! ;o) The Armstrong sheeting floors have some killer patterns on the website. I have looked at hundreds, maybe thousands (and dragged home DOZENS!) of samples in every flooring store in my area and there is a weird thing with my granite. When I put some what-look-like-totally-NEUTRAL colors of flooring up to it, the floor goes surprisingly PINK... or ORANGE... or GREEN.. or PEACH. My husband thought I was kidding or exaggerating until he saw it for himself! The floor I am currently considering (the Tarkett FF) is one of the FEW (and I mean, less than five!!!) that really blends well and looks nice with my granite samples. FrenchDressing, I'm really a color lover, and not afraid of it at all. My last house was all done in very bold colors. Our home now is a smaller Cape Cod, very light and airy, and I have enjoyed keeping it painted in soft, light, neutral colors of the sea. It is a nice change for me!
