I cannot suggest anything but I can say do not listen to those girls on Jerseylicious!

I haven't use it myself but have heard great things about it and it has a pleasant scent unlike most other self tanners. It's a bit expensive, Bed Bath and Beyond carries it if yours has a beauty/Harmon department.

I was coming here to say FakeBake but Judiegal beat me to it. That's what I use. I love it. Looks brown not orange. I don't think it smells good but you do what you have to do. It has a color guide in it (greenish) so you can make sure to rub it in good. I use it at night and shower in the morning. It comes off clothes and sheets no prob. and really, I don't have much issues with it rubbing off. I usually will put a hand towel over my pillow though. You can tell a difference after using it once but a couple days in a row makes it better. I don't think it wears funny when coming off. I've tried others in the past and haven't been happy with them. They have a special "face" tanner but I use the lotion above on my face too.

I tan very easily and don't think it looks like I came back from an island but it's a nice glow. Before I tried it I read reviews and people were trying to say you looked super dark after after a few applications. It's more like a nice warm glow.

I don't even use gloves half the time. Don't have problems with my hands staining really.

You will want to do it at night though or when nobody will see you. The tint of the green/brown color guide makes you look a little funny.

Another Fake Bake user here and restating shee's warning - don't plan on using when you are heading out the door!!! The color guide turns me the MOST sickly color - perfect for Halloween. But the next day..... great color.

I also like the Neutrogena self tanner and you can put that one on and go out the door.

Ditto! Called " Micro Mist". Love that it take effect within an hr. or two, allowing for a fast build-up with re-tanning applications. No grease or mess, nice color, only slight fake tannner smell...not bad at all. Never had any streaking issues.
For a really great look I go to the tanning salon for the all over spray. Love that for special occasions. Go try it and see.

I would definitely not go out in public after just applying any sunless tanner - especially not the first time. The smell tends to develop along with the tan as the day wears on. It can smell wonderful when you apply it, but something in the DHT, which is the compound that reacts with your skin cells to create the color, also reacts to produce an odor that is not always pleasant.
There are also products that just color the skin and wash off. I have been using Sally Hansen's Airbrush legs and it helps even out my skin tone. But with any of these products practice before your event!

Anyone use either product who are in their mid late 50s and have old lady skin on their legs(no laughing shee) and you know exactly what I mean. I wonder if I can exfoliate enough?? and I bet I shouldn't run out and get either to put on tonight for tomorrow afternoon right?

Get yourself some Austrailian Gold Instant Bronzer Spray. It's instant golden brown (no orange) color, dries in 1-2 minutes, SPF (I get both the 8 and the 15 and use instead of suntan lotion throughout the summer), and it's a continuous spray, so no worry for hands.

Fake Bake is hands down the most realistic self tanner. The green hue that you see is because the color will not come out orange. So, if you buy a self tanning product that appears a bit green when you apply it. Don't worry, it's a good thing.

Also, Whipped Chocolate is another decent self tanner that doesn't turn orange.

I used the Neutrogena for years, but I am finding it makes me a bit orangey, or more than I want to be. LOL

There is also another new self tanning product being sold on QVC, I have to get the name of the woman who makes it. DM brought it over the other nite and I did a test spot, looks great. Again, has the green hue to it when you first apply tho. So, you have to apply at night and take a shower in the morning after it develops.

I will try to get the name of the QVC product for you.

Best advice is to practice before the event to see what works with your skin. For years I had an allergic reaction to Fake Bake. Terrible hives, and I was sick because I loved the way it looked. Anyhoo, I switched to Whipped Chocolate and am just as satisfied.

Where do you buy Whipped Chocolate?

I had the tv on QVC this morning and the Bare Escentuals lady was there and they look to have a really nice product where you use a big brush to smooth it on. You can even put this on top of your hands since a brush does the work.

I know my DIL loves the B.E. make-up, so maybe if there's a BE store near you, you may be able to check it out.

But they're kind of expensive.

Jergens is good, but you need to use it every day.

oakley - my DM bought that self-tanner with the huge wide brush, can't remember the name, but it was a nightmare for her. She ended up bringing it here for DD.

The QVC product that DM bought this week is called Sevin Nyne. I think it is about $40 per tube. Not a big tube either. LOL I visited today and mentioned that might be a good idea to use the Neutrogena wipes and save the Sevin Nyne for a special occasion. Pricey. Good looking tan, but I think you could do your arms and legs maybe 3 times at most if you were very careful and added in some good moisturizer to help it go a bit further.

I wash my hands really well after I put on the self-tanning product. I then take a makeup sponge and apply the Whipped Chocolate on the top of my hands/fingers with that. Then take a baby wipe and clean the palms of my hands and in between fingers. Probably way TMI. LOL

I wore that stuff every summer and it looked so real on me.

I use Jergens (for medium or dark skin) and I think it works great. The trick I think to any sunless tanner is that you have to put it all over your entire body - face, neck, hairline, back, body, everywhere. Then with a damp towel rub off any extra on the palm of your hands and your toes. It helps if you put a little bit of moisturizer on your hands and feet before you begin. But if you do the sunless tanner all over it looks pretty good.
