help choosing yellow paint for kitchen walls
Comments (41)Ours is called "classic silk" by Flexbon. Like calisamcn, we like it so much we painted pretty much the whole house in it. It is soft and soothing and looks different with different lighting. However, when we were first using soft white compact flourescents in the can lights the lighting made the wall color look too yellow and also yellowed out our cabinets. We changed to "bright white" compact flourescents and what a big difference! Here is a link that might be useful: Classic silk in our kitchen...See Moreanyone with a yellow kitchen?
Comments (30)One tip to remember, which will become a bit more obvious when you start to look at paint chips and samples, is that the yellows all have a strong dose of something else -- green or brown or red or something. And they only become more intense up on the wall! Just because something is pale, if it's too green or too yellowy citrusy or too brown to start with, it will still just look wrong. You have a good start with white cabinets and butcher block. Unless your white has a secret hidden identity, or you have other things in the kitchen that come into play, like fabrics or floors neighboring rooms or a lot of other colors, you should be pretty good. I would also take lululemon's advice seriously that, both in order to test paint and before you paint for real, you need to paint over the red. You could just get a little sample pot of white at first if you couldn't bear it, or, if you're committed, ask for a gallon of primer at the paint shop, and paint a good big patch of white, enough so your eye doesn't take in the red and can view the yellows on their own, even if you step back a bit. (Yes, your kitchen will look like crap for a little while.) I think you will be much happier with a yellow kitchen than a merlot kitchen!...See Morenew Rug(s) arrived - what do you think?
Comments (80)I typed a response last night by DD borrowed my computer and I forgot to post.:( The rug you have looks good. It doesn't have to stand on its own; it's part of a whole. I am like you (I think). I don't like any one item in my home to stand out, or things to look too decorated and deliberate. I like the yellow rugs for your chairs, but they may be just a tad too much "on the nose." I liked wool sisal for your room, but I love texture. I like everything to meld together to create a calm, comfortable whole. I want people to say "I love this room", not "I love that rug". To me, the later speaks to the luck of a purchase, the former speaks to my ability to create an atmosphere. To me, the addition of the yellow tee-shirt pillow cinched it. But, I agree, the little shelf needs work to fit in. You have good instincts; trust them. Dee...See MoreTake the Yellow out of BM White Dove wall paint?!
Comments (94)WD is not my favorite white, but many do love it. First you need to test some whites with your other finishes - floor/counter and backsplash. You also need to consider the trim color that you are using in the rest of your house. Do you have white trim? What color is the current trim color? Whites often do not play well with other whites. When you have picked the color have to have a sample painted with whatever paint the cabinet painter is using. Their color matches are not always perfect, so better to find out before they paint all your cabinets. Many people who have used White Dove have re-painted with Simply White. It still has some yellow undertones, but never looks dingy. WD can go dingy. Personally, my favorite is a color match that BM stores mix for me. Match of Devine Color™ V0101W Icing. The difference between Simply White and Icing is that Icing leans just a bit more toward the orange yellow then the green yellows. I sometimes detect a touch of green (Chartreuse) in Simply White. Computers do a lousy job depicting whites, but this is an analysis of several of the whites that were discussed in this chain. The LCH designations are L - how light the color is, C - Chroma - how colorful or gray the color is and H- Hue - where the color falls on the color wheel. Yellow range is 72-105 Yellow green is 105-130 As you go down in chroma and the colors get closer to gray we see it as a blue or cool undertone (Chantilly Lace, Decorators White)...See Morescottmel
