Does anyone have a source for yeast made in USA?
Comments (28)Wikipedia: Red Star Yeast Company, LLC is a joint-venture of Lesaffre, and Archer Daniels Midland Company. Red Star operates two plants in the United States—a plant in Headland, AL, and a new plant built in 2006 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Lesaffre Yeast Corporation (prior to the joint-venture) used to operate plants in Milwaukee, WI; Baltimore, MD; and Oakland, CA, but those facilities have been closed since 2006. Their corporate office is located in Milwaukee, WI. Red Star Yeast and Products was the former division of Sensient Technologies (formerly Universal Foods), which distributed the Red Star brand. Red Star Yeast was then sold to French-based Lesaffre group in 2001. In 2004, Lesaffre and Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) created the joint-venture that the company operates under today....See MoreMade in USA?
Comments (33)I was about to go on a quest for a fireclay apron front sink and found the site noted above (Rachiele). Wow, what a huge amount of information. I spent over an hour on the site and will likely spend much more time. Lots of good information and videos. I am now leaning toward a copper apron sink. What a turnaround. I did not realize a fireclay sink finish might crack if I poured hot water in it after cold water was poured. The copper seems indestructible. They even have a type of stainless steel that helps to hide scratches. It looks nice, but too stark for my kitchen plans. Now that I have my sink and faucet, on to appliances and cabinetry. I found a company, Superior Wood Products in Indiana. Looks like everything is made right there, and right in the heart of Amish and Mennonite country. Appliances are going to be the biggest challenge now. Here is a link that might be useful: Rachiele Custom Sinks...See Moreknobs/pulls made in USA list
Comments (24)" You know who's really to blame? The US companies that are trying to save money by sacrificing quality. Yes, that's right, corporate America. " I disagree with this almost entirely. While corp. America certainly has a hand in the process and many can do more to manage their offshore opps better - sometimes their partner just cuts corners and slips in a cheaper ingredient or process before the designer/specifier can find out. You don't think someone in the U.S. specified all that crap going into the pet food they were going to sell - do you ? THE REAL CULPRIT is the majority of people around here that just don't want to pay the going rate for a domestic made product. "Why pay $100 for that wodget when XYZ corp. has the same thing for $65 ??? I mean they look the same, and I'll only use it for a few years , so why spend the xtra $$$ ? Corporations are fairly malleable and not altruistic by nature. They are profit driven just like you. If you're not buying enough wodgets to keep them open and a profit in their shareholder's pocket - then they will figure out a way to compete. They can keep production at home and "specialize" while trying to convince you their product is worth more than their competition's Made in China version - or - they can find a cheaper method of production and sell more units. Few are going to sit around watching their sales decline because of cost. I wish folks would quit whining about this. MADE IN the USA was not always a symbol of quality. At the turn of the century, 2 back , America was the source of cheap labor. Droves of English and European companies wanted to set up shops in the USA to take advantage of cheap labor - it's what fueled the industrial revolution and made many Americans prosperous and wealthy....See MorePlease Help! Comments (14)Taylor King is all upholstery; Lexington had both upholstery & casegoods, Stanley only casegoods unless they have recently added upholstery. I would say the order is correct & Hooker would be the lowest price point. Also don't count out Bassett for a mid line upholstery & casegood line they are pretty good; I know upholstery is done here in the states however frames may be imported & also their custom casegoods line is done here in the states, at least the finishing process the actual frames may be imported; I could check on that if you want. Lexington's upholstery is also done in the US for the most part....See MoreDanG4
