Don't worry, he did have six. He ate the first three while the second three were being cooked.

Picture would have been better with six stacked. But I didn't want to keep the first batch warm in the oven while the second batch cooked. So............

I love cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing. Cream cheese frosting is less sweet than maple syrup. I am not a big pancake fan as they seem soggy and too sweet with the usual offering of maple syrup. These I could eat. Maybe not quite as many as Moe. :) But I could do damage to at least one.

The photos are nice and I'm sure Moe was a happy camper.

Not a sweet fan here either. In fact, there is more frosting in those photos than I have consumed in my entire life. My Mom never baked me a birthday cake because she knew I would not eat it. She did make me cherry pie though and I would eat a little of it.

I was in a shopping mall and there was a little shop in the food court selling cinnamon buns, some kind of a chain, that's the only thing they sell, nothing else. Fresh baked buns, wonderful aroma filled the court.

"Lady, I like to have two please. Give me the two that are coming out from the oven, and please don't put any icing on them."

"Sorry sir, They only come with icing."

Me, "But they don't have icing on now"

"I know, but I have to put icing on them to give to you."

Me, "I don't understand! If you don't will they explode?"

"Sir, we have standards, I have no authority to make changes. I don't want to get fired."

Me, "Can I speak with the manager?"

"I am the manager"

Me, "Do you have a plastic spoon so I can scrape the icing off."

"No Sir, we don't, because you don't eat cinnamon buns with a spoon."

I walked away. That night I made the most delicious cinnamon buns, with no icing.

Eileen, me too. My favourite Cinnamon Rolls are from Grounds for Coffee in Vancouver.

Both times we lived in Vancouver, we lived within walking distance of Grounds for Coffee so they were often a Sunday morning treat.

Unlike the chain DC visited - for those with no taste - for sweets - they would leave off the decadent cream cheese icing.

Wondering why if you don't like sweets you would even open a thread about cinnamon roll pancakes?

They look wonderful to me....wondering if you put some frosting between the layers in the stack....and if not why not?

I haven't looked for the recipe....suppose I could find a version....but why not post your recipe?...Please!

Linda, the recipe is all over the net. I used Recipe Girl's version with a couple of minor changes.

I used butter instead of oil in the pancake batter. And I also added a little sugar to the batter.

Ann, like some of our members, my system can no longer handle that much sugary love in the morning.
To me, this is more of a decadent dessert than breakfast. And I can see myself shoveling a few bites of this after dinner.

Don't get me wrong I like sweets, just not too sweet (for my personal eating preference).

I can't speak for any of the others as to why they opened the thread. I however, was intrigued by the cinnamon pancakes - it was the frosting that would not interest me.

I am always looking for recipes to share with my 31 nieces/nephews and their growing families.

And of course Ann's photos are always a delight to look at!

I read all of the posts here. Even though I have no desire to perform, undergo, dissect the scientific experiments and the sous verde cooking that Dcarch specializes in, I still read his posts.

I read your Risotto posting, even though I've never made or eaten it.

I doubt there would be anyone who doesn't read Ann's posts....just for the drool-factor of her photography.

In this case,
I do love good cinnamon rolls.
But my version of a GOOD cinnamon roll
Does NOT have icing on it.

In fact, there is very little icing
That I like on anything.

Some sweets are good.
But this just seems wa-a-a-a-y too
Over the top.
For my tastes, anyway.

Dcarch, that scenario would have made me crazy! What happened to "have it your way" and "the customer is always right (even when he's wrong)"?

And that is why I usually have a take-out pack of plastic cutlery/napkin/s&p in my purse as well as a sharp knife with a sheath covering to cut up fruit, cheese, etc. Ya never know when you'll have a snack attack!

Honestly I'd typically choose one of those steak and egg breakfasts you make for Moe over anything sweet, but this does look like a special treat for once every few blue moons.

FOAS - surely you did not meant to leave Sol out of your advice to Ann about an invite.

Although I'm like dcarch in that I prefer cinnamon rolls without icing, I like them warm with butter, I'm more likely to have something very sweet in the morning than any other time.

So, dessert for breakfast? Oh yeah, count me in, although I'd probably swap maple syrup for the frosting.

I'm intrigued, I think they sound good in theory, I'm going to try the swirl technique with my mulitgrain pancakes and skip the icing. But will still have syrup, so still sweet.

Made these this morning on an electric griddle - they were delicious. After removing the first batch (I put 5 on the griddle at a time), I was trying to clean the griddle for the next batch. The brown sugar cinnamon swirl filling stuck to the griddle and it wasn't as easy as wiping with a paper towel like the directions said. I was scraping the griddle with a spatula and some of the sugar mixture splattered on my hand - it's just a couple spots, but I do have blisters.
What to do different next time? I have a cast iron griddle that came with my new range that I haven't used yet. Was thinking I could heat that up too. There are 4 of us, so if I made 5 pancakes on the big griddle & 3 on the range, that would use up the batter in one batch, but isn't it hard to clean up the swirl mixture? It stuck to my spatula like hardened candy.
As an aside, I used Trader Joes Multigrain pancake mix. The swirl mixture lasted for 8 pancakes, so there wasn't too much in any of them, and the frosting glaze again stretched out for 8 pancakes was really like a light glaze, not a thick frosting. So, I actually don't think these pancakes were much different in the butter & sugar catagory than if we had used straight butter & maple syrup like we usually do. Mine didn't look like the pretty pictures, but they were still delicious and not over the top rich & sweet, which is why I would make them again if I could do so without killing myself! They also didn't take much longer than our ususal Sunday morning pancakes, as my son made the swirl mixture & my daughter made the glaze while I made the pancakes.

I made them this morning too with my own multigrain variation and they were wonderful. No need for syrup and I didn't ice.

I'll have a scrambled egg first (I need the protein buffer!) and then I'll take a short stack WITH the icing! :-) They look beautiful and delicious! What's the difference if you use icing or you use butter & syrup? If you're going to make a stack of pancakes (these or any other), you're probaby not in diet mode! LOL
