I got a box of sunshine!!!!!

Yesterday there was a message in my mailbox that I had a parcel to pick up at the post office. I left for work a few minutes early this A.M. to go get what I expected to be some rubber stamps I won on e-bay. When I got to the PO, they handed me a BIG box from Florida!

Hmmmm....says I....I don't recall ordering anything from Florida. Lo and behold, it is a box of honeybells from Andi! Too cold to leave them in my car, so I brought them in to share with the girls in the office! Needless to say I am very popular today! LOL

Andi, thank you so much for thinking of me! I have never tasted a honeybell before, and my, are they sweet and juicy!

Sure was a ray of sunshine after another week of sub-zero temps here!

Thanks again! I have to make sure to save a few to take home! LOL

Lucky you. I bought some at the store a couple weeks agoand they weren't so good. I had planned to smuggle some to Ellen in CA, but these weren't worth going to jail for.

Enjoy yours! What a thoughtful gift. When they are good, they are SO good.

Aren't they great? Andi was kind enough to raffle off a box here on the forum. Nancy won, but bowed out because she got some from another source. I was lucky enough to be the next name drawn. Mine came last week, and what a ray of sunshine in the winter gloom! I e-mailed Andi of course, but didn't post here about it. Was going to take a beautiful picture, but somehow they got eaten before that happened!

Hi dahlialove That 'penelope' is a beauty. I don't see the orange you mention but the yellow/lavender combo is fantastic. And of course it is nothing like the catalogs says a real Penelope should be. My "Penelope" has morphed into a dinner plate - mostly red with dirty yellow gold in the middle but the kicker is all leaves have white tips. It looks a lot like (and actually may be) a Nick Sr, though the pics of Nick are much more red than mine. It is a Semi cactus and I actually cannot make up my mind if I like it or not. I am NOT a fan of Bodacious either - too busy for my taste - which may explain why Nick Sr would not be a favorite. But I moved it away from where I sit in the yard to the back section and it is starting to 'grow' on me. (Maybe out of sight, out of mind?) I may have taken a pic of it and am getting the photos developed now so I may have a picture soon, which I will post as a "Anybody know this dahlia?" thread later. For now, I know some of you have Nick Sr and I wonder if yours have white rolled tips and if some are more gold than red? David

Melissia, I got outside when I could, in between baking batches of goodies....it was a most perfect day! Ilene, It's Saturday afternoon and we have a little sunshine here still. We've had mostly clouds, but got up to 61 degrees before the advancing cold front sent the temperature skidding. The wind has picked up a little, but it isn't blowing hard here yet like it is in some parts of the state. We're supposed to be in the 30s around sunset, which is disappointing. Our fire dept. Christmas dinner/party is tonight, and I had planned to wear a sleeveless blouse. (Oh well, the blouse seemed like a good idea when we were expecting the cold front to arrive after midnight!) I guess I'll still wear the sleeveless blouse, but underneath a red wool jacket. And, I think I'll trade my dressy heels for fur-lined boots. I hate cold weather. Tomorrow it is supposed to be bitterly cold here, and our firefighters will be loading up the firetruck and going out to play Santa....delivering toys to economically disadvantaged children. When they decided last week to do the gifts on Sunday afternoon, they had no idea the weather was going to mimic North Pole weather. I think our coldest night here will be Sunday night/early Monday a.m. but then we have a gradual warming trend and Christmas Day should be pretty decent. You can tell a cold front is rolling in by the huge numbers of birds coming to the feeders. Dawn

Great minds, well that's a stretch for me. I looked for two weeks for honeybells that I could ship circumventing the orange police. I didn't find any in retail stores.

Linda, I know how that liquid sunshine works. My friend David split a case with me. I'm hoping to make marmalade by the weekend. I've had some big glasses of fresh juice, it's so good.

Linda, I am so glad you are enjoying the "sunshine"! They are delicious juiced and even better in Annie's marmalade. Enjoy them! Cathy, I have never seen them in a retail grocery - only at my farm market which is owned by Nelson Family Farms. If you want some, let me know.

Yes, Bubbe, they are like giant tangerines! And I mean giant! These puppies are the size of softballs!

Everyone was moaning and groaning while eating them at work! Juice running down their faces and arms! Tim had one after dinner tonight and had to eat it over the sink it was so juicy!

Andi, I am stunned and amazed at this very generous gift. Thank you again, so very much!
