Looking for an affordable good quality Sectional sofa.

We bought a Broyhill Laramie sectional sofa with DuraCoil cushions less than a year ago...DO NOT BUY A BROYHILL! After 6 months, the cushions had flattened out and we could feel the framing when we sat. It is just the 2 of us in the house and we are not big people!

We bought the couch at Pilgrim Furniture and they have replaced the cushions twice already. They tried to get Broyhill to give us a refund but they won't and just want to keep replacing the cushions. Pilgrim is giving us a credit and letting us pick out another sectional but I have to buy it from them.

So here we go again. My choices are:

We are having the same problem with picking a midrange brand. We don't have one purchased yet but we have read bad reviews of every brand in our price range. Specifically considering klaussner. Would love feedback on their stationary fabric sectionals.

Jbarbara, I type this while laying my 230 pound self back on my Ashley sleeper sofa. I find their products to be durable and servicable for the price.

There are a couple mistake products in the line up. The WIDE seat reclining sofas are prone to mechanism failure. The big swivel accent chairs suffer from larger folks like myself and folks who set their kids loose destroying em in the play room.

FWIW, I prefer the normal sized seat reclining sofas for durability.

Any special conditions in your home? Are you in a dry climate like Vegas or do you have three college football playing sons bouncing around?

If you look at the manufactures suggested by spolina (Baker's Milling Road Collection, Hancock And Moore, Bernhardt, Lexington Brands, Swaim) then you can definitely buy below MSRP. Check Boyles in NC and Lexington Furniture Company in Lexington, KY. I have never gotten a better price locally. The best price has always come from these two stores. You just need to find what you want by looking in your local store, then contact Boyles and Lexington for a quote. I have purchased a Kindel dining room set; Hancock & Moore sofa; chair, & ottoman; Hickory Chair sofa, chair & ottoman; EJ Victor chair; Hekman table; Baker bed; Hickory Chair nightstands; Century sofa; Stickley desk; Wildwood lamps; and a Bernhardt bed in the past 5 years. Only the Stickley desk was cheaper locally as I got it on a double sale. The price difference depends on the brand. Manufactures by law cannot dictate the 3rd party retailer's selling price. The way they get around the law is to make it clear that they will not supply a store that sells below a certain minimum. They claim doing so ensures the "value" of the product brand. One brand my tolerate a minimum of 25% below MSRP; another will tolerate 30% below MSRP. Stores like Bassett and Ethan Allen hold the line on their price. If they have a sale, you get the sale price. Otherwise, the price is the price. Bassett will probably not give you the quality and look you are after.

That is the only living space in the house. It's a townhouse we're renting for a year or two. We sacrificed on space to be close to the beach, which has been an awesome choice, until Irma, of course. We don't have any other "real" furniture for the living area, and we wanted to avoid purchasing anything until we bought a home, but when the old sofa had to go, we had to replace that. So we don't have any other seating, but it's really not a big deal. We don't have kids or family in the area, and we don't have a bunch of people over at one time, so the sectional is enough for our current needs. Is there anything in particular you would suggest for ottomans? I would like something that fits physically with the sofa to get something close to a chaise feel without having to close off the space permanently as you would with a chaise. Finding the right size is important too, as I dislike the really big ottomans for sectionals; they take up way too much space and prevent the use of a coffee table.

After much debate between Century, Taylor King and Vanguard, we ended up with the Vanguard Envision. The deciding factors were mainly size and arm style, although comfort and fabric options also played a role. All three were nice to sit on but we preferred the sloped track arm that only Vanguard offered. The Century would have been our next choice but it was much larger, about 10" in each direction, and we felt it might overwhelm our space. We ordered it from Lexington Furniture, who beat local prices by over $1000. Total cost in a Grade 26 fabric (no decorative upgrades) was $5500. It arrived yesterday and we LOVE IT. Just need to repaint the room and get a new rug! :)

IdaClaire I don't want to see businesses shilling their products here. Such posts, under the guise of "helpful advice" degrade the integrity and longstanding intent of these forums (and I've had many years of active forum participation). What's to stop these forums from becoming just one ad after another? Nobody wants that (except perhaps those who only participate in hopes of making a buck). Pros that offer their own products or services in response to a query have a vested and biased interest. It makes me sad that such things are even allowed here. And yes, I do flag this stuff as spam and will continue to do so. There's a lot of poor and amateur advice here on this forum, and I'm in the business going on my 35th year now. I swing by to help out when I can just in the same way I help the lady next door change a flat tire on her car. I have never got a single order off of HOUZZ that I'm aware of. But this is the appreciation given for the professional expertise and experience which is FREE? Vested and Bias interest? <rolling eyes>. My wife says "Why do you even bother with doing that? That's the best use of your time?" At least the lady whose tire I changed will say Thank You instead of telling me I'm out to sell her a brake job.

Pretty much all of those manufacturers have similar construction components. Plywood frames, generally hardwood plywood, sinuous springs (some are built better than others) , Flexsteel uses their curved blue steel system, and foam cushions with a fiber wrap (ask if they have upgraded cushion opions). If considering these products visit a sofa at your local retailer and observe the tailoring, warranty and comfort of the piece and then make your decision.

Thanks for the feedback. My preference is for a stationary sectional with a traditional look (nothing modern), don't need recliners and want firm cushions due to back issues...I attached a photo of my current couch. It took me 8 months to find the Broyhill and thought we found a gem with the firm Duracoil cushions. This was our 3rd Broyhill and we still have a leather couch that we love and the other one lasted 17 years with a houseful of kids. Broyhill has gone way downhill and the Duracoil technology is a bust!

The thought of picking out another couch makes me cringe...off to Pilgrim tonight. We might go with something in leather.
