Pulling my hair out over two steps

Our entry is raised when you walk through the front. Stright ahead is the stairs that go upstairs and to the right one step (5.5 inch) to Dining Room. To the left is one step (again 5.5 inch) to the family room.

As you can see in the picture we are going to redo the stairs. The winders are an issue and I see several differnt methods posted on how to deal with them.

The question is about those 5.5inch step downs into the DR & FR. We are re-tiling the entry and my DH thinks we should add a wood bullnose piece (stained same as the stairs) to signify the step down. He will have to lower the bullnose with the saw to make it the same level as the tile. He's planning on using a 1" board for riser to give the bullnose more support.

I'm not sure how it will look. Does anyone have a picture of tile transitioning to wood?

Please ignore the mess all around.
