I have had this flooring down in my basement for over a year now. The floor has held up very well and I am pleased with the performance of the product for it's price point. The floor is only 3/8" thick so proper installation is critical. A key element is the subfloor needs to be a flat as possible. It does not have to be level, just flat within the specified tolerances. After installation the floor made no noise when walk on but now that it has gone through multiple seasons there are occasional squeaks when stepping on certain areas the first time each day. But after that first squeak it makes no noise for the rest of the day. The floor does shrink and expand as it is a natural product so follow the installation directions closely regarding spacing at the edges. We have a small 12 pound dog and the floor finish has held up well to the dog playing on the floor. The floor has a matte finish so it hides scratches better than a high gloss finish would. When purchasing the floor try to get boxes with the same lot numbers (on the end of the box). There can be very slight differences in the gloss level between lots so pull from multiple boxes when installing to blend this out. The staff at Wellmade who makes the product for Costco were very helpful in answering all my questions and delivered trim pieces that I purchased to finish the installation in a timely manner. Wellmade does have a website that provides additional information about the product given the information available at the Costco store is limited to what is printed on the box.

I'm having the same concern. I originally went to lumber liquidators and found a nice hand scraped strand bamboo flooring. I then went online and researched a load of companies. So far, I like Cali bamboo. My biggest concern was the formaldehyde in the products. Cali bamboo has little to no formaldehyde added in there product. I've read those same reviews about Morning star, but they were outdated. I was emailed a material safety data sheet on Morning Star brand, but no one could tell me how much formaldehyde content was in the morning star product. At the bottom of the sheet there was a disclaimer: "The information and data herein are believed to be accurate and have been compiled from sources deemed to be reliable. It is offered for your consideration, investigation and verification. Lumber Liquidators makes no warranty of any kind, express or implied, concerning the accuracy of completeness of the information and data herein. Lumber Liquidators will not be liable for claims relating to any party's use of or reliance on information and data contained herein regardless of whether it is claimed that the information and data are inaccurate, incomplete or otherwise misleading. It is incumbent upon the user to obtain the most up-to-date information". So I guess what they mean is that the info on the safety data sheet is BS. I'd like to know. Cali bamboo is great, but I actually prefer the hand scraped look they have from Morning Star at lumber liquidators. Does anyone know if Morning Stars 2011 line has added formaldehyde?? ahhh, thank you guys so much! I appreciate all the sweet comments. Anyone that recognizes my name knows that this house is our pride and joy (as humble as it is) and we plan on staying here a very long time. We are trying to do things "right"...even if it takes longer to do them. I know there is a lot of disdain for the "weekend warrior" DIY-er...we know plenty of those types. My DH prides himself in the fact that he can build a house from the ground up...electrical, plumbing, floors, roofs, etc. Of course, because he can do all of that, he is not "specialized" in one area. Usually, he knows his limitations. He has said to me many times, ""Wow, I know how to do ____ usually, but this needs an expert." He has put down quite a few wood floors. I don't know if it was the concrete slab that messed him up, or dealing with bamboo rather than wood. We tried to ignore it. At first, I told myself it was "texture" on the floor. I originally wanted a hand scraped wood, so I told myself "Ok, here is that textured look I want!" We both tried to pretend it was not happening. We cannot deny it anymore, and it makes us sad because our floor was a BIG deal to us. We hate that we are on a budget and can't get the best wood, nor can we pay anyone to install. Hi justgottobeme! I suspect you will regret bamboo. I have stranded bamboo in a kitchen and I wouldn't put it in a bath. If you really don't have the money to truly fix the deflection, use a small mosaic tile, hexagon or penny-round will probably work best. Use a masonry board or a uncoupling membrane and then adhere the tiles with a flexible thin set. I prefer Laticrete 254, but if you have to do the big box store, Flex bond from Home Depot isn't bad. Then use a decent flexible grout. The Mapei flexcolor is a solid product. If your floor is flexing enough to break those tiles then you have much bigger problems. Eventually the grout might work loose but you should have quite a while before that becomes a real problem. ETA: Check my advice on the johnbridge forums if you would like. You can literally paste my advice to your problem over there and get opinions from professional tilers who will put their name and experience right there in their signature.
