Dark chocolate cream cheese.

As I was reaching for a "Philly" cream cheese in the supermarket I noticed a small tub of dark chocolate cream cheese. I couldn't resist and I bought a package. I like cream cheese and I LOVE dark chocolate, so I didn't hesitate for a moment. When I got home I began to think about how I would eat it. On bread or toast doesn't appeal to me. I don't want it on salty crackers. I wondered if I would like it the way I use Nutella--as a cupcake frosting. I have tasted it twice on a spoon and it has far too much tart or sour undertone. Other than on graham crackers, I don't know how I would eat it. Any ideas? If I found chocolate mashed potatoes for sale I would also but that item because the thought of anything chocolate will always entice me to try a new product.

I tried it at our local grocery (they were sampling it on sugar cookies) and didn't care for it at all, I had the same thought that you did. Too bitter/tart. Maybe a chocolate cheesecake with lots of other stuff to help hide the flavor?

I'd be daring and put some on slices of fresh oranges. Both have that tart sweet mix. Of course you'd have to close your eyes and imagine yourself in a candle lit white linen tablecloth-ed expensive restaurant for the full effect, not just standing in front of the refrigerator with the plastic tub in your hand. LOL

Thanks all y'all! Does this site still have some kinks in it? I know for sure I responded last night.....strange. It could have been me too. Just bought a new laptop and haven't had much time to play with it and add ad blocker yet. Several post I've opened the text run into the ads on the right. What a pia. Maggie,I had never heard of smoked bologna until we moved south. Thinking it's a Oklahoma/Texas thing as most bbq joints serve it down here. Thanks Annie! Between the dinner/buffet, his favorite band playing for free and donations they raised a good sum of money for his wife and kids. Ci lantro, those Brach's Stars have been hard to find forever it seems. I was glad to find the dark ones but I guess they are becoming a thing of the past. Popcorn in the soup, oh yeah, I/we have done that more than once. Allye is a hoot and she will talk your ear off for sure. Thankfully she is potty trained now too. Not a fan of changing "muddy diapers" here...although I've done it many times over the years even though I don't have kids. LOL! Good to be back friends! David

My preference is DARK. DH's is Butterfingers! I know that because when we were in Belgium I was excited about these small chocolate outlets are a popular draw for tourists. In Belgium much like wineries, tours of Belgian chocolate shops include tastings and exclusive souvenirs. Anyway, I was overwhelmed trying to make decisions and assumed by the puzzled look on his face that DH was too. I finally made some selections, he didn't. He finally said "they don't have Butterfingers". I was emnbarrased and told him to keep his voice down--crazy American!

chi, I make them for Amanda every year and I don't add brandy at all. I sometimes use my home canned brandied cherries and sometimes I just use maraschino cherries with no alcohol. It still comes out fine and is Amanda's favorite holiday treat. If I had to choose, I'd go with the Irish Cream or the southern Comfort, although I think Amaretto would be good if you have some. The almond and cherry mixture is something I like. Oh, and I don't always have butterscotch chips so sometimes I do them all chocolate. Still good! Annie

Martha, these are really very good, and super easy. Plus, you can make them to your taste, using all dark chocolate like I did, or milk chocolate, or add the original butterscotch like AnnT's recipe calls for. I'm not wild over marshmallows, so I keep thinking I could add something else in there instead, I just haven't decided what that would be. Annie

Mix it with sugar and eggs,etc... and make a chocolate cream cheese cake or pie. Or a filling in Cream Cheese Danish.

I also tasted it at a sampling in the store.....and my thoughts were just like Ann's...add sugar and make a filling....or a layer on a cheesecake.
But I bet it would be good served with apples or pears.

Maybe as a topping for a sweet/dessert pizza type thing? Make a sweet dough, maybe even get some puff pastry, and top with the chocolate cream cheese and some fruit that goes with chocolate You may need to whip some sugar into the cream cheese first. I'm just brainstorming.

If I didn't like the taste that much, I wouldn't invest a lot into additional ingredients to use it up. My first thought was to mix in toasted walnuts and orange zest to stuff some prunes.

Make cream cheese icing in the regular way, with powdered sugar and unsalted butter beaten into the cream cheese. You can make it as sweet as you want.

I found the bottom layer! I bought some Lorna Doones and slathered on the choco-cheese. Wow! There is no sour taste--just creamy chocolate and the still-too-sweet cookie. Too sweet and chocolate? I can deal with that easily. However, I don't think I will allow myself to buy these ingredients again because I am certain they are terrible for my cholesterol and blood sugar. The only thing worse in this picture is my will power.
