Warm lightweight blanket-throw washable

Well, my title pretty much says it all..
I have an elderly friend who is now in a nursing facility .
When she was at home she slept with an electric blanket however the home does not allow them.
I mentioned a throw because that would work as well.She's not even 5 ft tall and now weighs 75 lbs.
She never asked for much her whole life and I realize she may never be warm again.
I'm gonna try ..Thanks

I will link to the perfect throw. Do not be worried that the price is so low..read the reviews. Especially with her weight this would be perfect. Good Luck...I am never warm enough...I know how she must feel. c

Whatever you decide to buy, make sure that her name is on it, written in large letters in indelible ink. I've had so many nice items stolen from nursing homes. They "lose" it in the laundry, supposedly. I realize this isn't a family member, so you probably can't take on this task, but I found that the only way to minimize disappearing items was to take all of the personal laundry home to do.

I use a down blanket in the summer. I got it on sale at Target. I have one in each room. It is the perfect weight for us down here in the deep South. And if we get an especially cold snap in the winter, I use it in addition to the down comforter (makes for very lightweight but extremely warm covers). Bear in mind, my down comforter is pretty light weight too, because it is never that bitterly cold here...or at least not for long. We LOVE our dogs! We've always had large outdoor dogs. The two indoor dogs we've had were small. We live in the country and they get to run free, swim in the surrounding lakes, and chase rabbits and howl at the full moon :) When they are "caged" it's a 3/4 acre pasture, not a crate that many are in during the day when no one is home (and/or at night). I'm home all day and have interaction with my dogs on and off all day. The weekends are full of outdoor activities around here (they're right in the middle of whatever is going on). They have grandchildren that play with them. They are my first defense against would be intruders. They bark at the slightest movement/sound (trust me :o ) Was it a coincidence that the first time they came in at night last year, we had a pack of feral hogs root up our south lawn??? I don't think so :o So the point of having an outdoor dog is no different than having an indoor dog...companionship. BTW, if you've ever seen a Lab jump in a sub-freezing lake to retrieve a duck or just for recreation and LOVE it, you'd know that they are fine in their igloo dog houses filled with cedar shavings :) Could all dogs do well in that environment? No, that's why we choose a breed that can.

The vellux (might be microfleece though, not sure) I bought several years ago is now used on the futon/loveseat in the basement tv/computer area, mostly by the dog - the sizing was weird anyway; a queen size long enough to tuck in at the foot of the bed but the width barely reached the sides so making the bed with 'hospital corners' as is our preference was impossible. We bought an electric blanket in the king size which was on sale at Costco back in October so it is big enough to cover the two of us without one of us fighting for the thing in our sleep. There's also one of those old-school poly cotton blend blankets with the satin binding on all four sides on the bed now, which I think was bought from lands end. My winter jacket is also Lands End and I've been wearing it a lot more now that we've moved to NE from SoCal, don't know what I'll buy when it has to be replaced. Yes, we do occasionally get shocked by the static - normally once we're in bed that's not much of a concern, it's the static buildup from shuffling along the floor in slippers en route that gets us when we're getting into bed.

I forget about Vermont Country Store. Off to look there. Thanks for the recommendations you have all used. So many king blankets are only 108x96 and with shrinkage they end up a little smaller than I would like. Some I have looked at are larger to start, 110x98. Doesn’t sound like much but maybe makes a difference. I wondered if those ‘cooling blankets’ really work. I wouldn’t put one in a duvet cover, and for our climate not in flannel unless in winter.

Fun, She has no family. She worked with my mom as a nurse.When my mother was alive she took care of her .She has such a vibrant mind with a failing body.
I already ironed her name to all her clothing and brought in a basket for the dirty so I can take it home to wash.
I bring meals in whenever I can.
It's so sad that for $8000 a month you would think they could answer the call button..(End of life care is a whole other story)

I find polar fleece very light weight and warm and washable. You might just buy a hunk of fabric in pretty colors. It doesn't ravel so it doesn't even need hemming....and if it disappears into the nursing home ether, no big deal.

If it is for her bed, check Ikea. They have warm, light weight down-alternative comforters at a great price.

If you decide to go with fleece, you can get one monogrammed at Lands End (and good quality IMO) for a decent price. I've bought the small sizes for our grandkids in the past and they are great. I don't know if they still have them but BB&B has a nice down alternative blanket that is fuzzy on one side and plain on the other. It also comes in down (DD has that one). With their 20% discount a queen size is very reasonable (around $100) iirc and it is very warm.

Fleece is my go to for warmth. Target often has their thick fleece throws on sale too.

I like the one trailrunner linked to. When my Dad was dying, that's all he wanted was his red wool blanket. He was always cold. Wool is known for it's warmth.

This is the one I purchased for the exact reason. It was recommended to me. It's amazingly cuddly and yummy to warm up to. My sister adores it. I've seen similar ones in other stores. If you get a change go feel the plush blankets, even Walmart has them. The reason I got this one is that it has insulate in it and that increases the warmth. God bless you for being there for her.

The Berkshire fleecy throws are very cozy -- check at Bed Bath & Beyond.

I think a throw will make her feel very appreciated and loved -- like you're giving her a hug every day!

(Ditto to what Annie wrote: If you don't find anything in a color you think she'll really like, you can always buy 2 lengths of non-pilling fleece at Joann's or Walmart, cut a fringe all the way around, and tie the 2 sides together all around. There are some nice patterned fabrics around.)
