Blanket Weed String Algae
Comments (18)I have 3 large metal stock tanks. Over the years I have never had any problems with string algae until last summer. My oldest stock tank that is over 20 years old started growing lots of string algae. That sort of surprised me since it had never happened before? I have often wondered if the zinc in the metal prevented the growth of the string algae in some way? Neither of my other stock tanks had a problem with algae at all. However, I have changed this older tank somewhat. A couple of years back, it developed some small holes in the bottom of it. So I painted the bottom with swamp cooler tar, completely covering the metal. So a lot of the surface metal was covered over and there was less zinc to get into the water. Now I don't know if it was the zinc or not, but something is preventing the algae grow in the two newer stock tanks. Have any of you that have metal stock tanks noticed not having a problem with string algae or do you have a problem with it?...See MoreThanks, Donna, blanket stitch works.

Comments (17)I'd like to see the front chair legs resting on the rug. That can be done by moving the sofa and rug towards the media unit, as suggested. Doing so will include the chair in the seating area as defined by the rug. Now might be a good time to edit, as well. There's a lot of input in this room, and all of your things are very cool. Take a curatorial approach so the "important" items have room to shine without competition. Perhaps re-purpose the end tables to another room. Instead of a table lamp, consider a floor lamp for the corner to the left of the fireplace. The wall light might work well above the chair. It's current position sort of takes away from your photo gallery wall. The added bonus is that you would have good reading light. And I really like the idea of a console beneath your large photograph on the wall in question! Topped with a table lamp and some greenery, it would be a great vignette. You may not need an end table if the ottoman is sufficient. If not, consider a low key c-table....See MoreWhen and how to cut back Blanket Flower -Gaillardia Grandiflora
Comments (20)Yes, the bed is mulched, HEAVILY!! We have Turbo grass here. The stuff for which Round-up was made to specifically kill (it doesn't, it can only maim it). And seeds never come up except in cracks in the mulch. I am sure I will have 1000s of blanket flower plants in the crack along the stone wall. :) I spread the seeds on the bare ground right around the base of the current plants. It may not work, that's why I kept some extra seeds. Oh to be able to garden without all this mulch! But Turbo grass is like Bermuda grass on steroids, with runner roots as thick as my pinky. Not fun to remove. It still finds ways through weed mat and mulch in areas. It is diabolical!! :) After years of war and negotiation, we have finally come to an understanding. It keeps me from free seeding and I keep it from taking over the garden. Anna...See Moremorz8 - Washington Coast
