Picnic blanket
Comments (6)It was interesting reading about other's creations/techniques. I'm so busy right now trying to get my private practice off the ground that I don't have time to make something. (But who am I kidding--even if I did, I probably wouldn't have the inclination, esp. with something like this so cheap! :-) I looked online and saw what Michelle was talking about and realized I also want something with a pattern on it, but it was eye-opening to see this specific thing is actually made. I /really/ don't get out to stores much due to a strong dislike of shopping. Well, I called a bunch of dept stores in the area and got several variations of 'huh?' then I hit on the idea of trying linens and bb&b. The latter said they had some, I went over and found the perfect thing! It folds up and zips together to form its own pouch. Has a carrying strap, a pocket for Stuff and a really cute pattern. I can hardly wait to try it out at an outdoor concert later this week! Thanks again for all the brainstorming!...See MoreCleaning out clothes - stay or throw-away?
Comments (43)Liz, Start by getting rid of EVERYTHING that doesn't fit, without any exceptions that it might fit "some day". Make it your goal to know that you can pull out any item of clothing and not have to put it back because it's the wrong size. I am familiar with that "finding a good home" idea and I kept things way longer than I should have because of it. Send your clothes to the thrift store and just picture in your mind someone finding your outfit and exclaiming, "This is PERFECT!". About 2 years ago I discovered the joy of thrift store shopping. LOL It takes time to go through the racks, but I like the thrill of the hunt. Never again will I pay $100 for a wool blazer (bought a like-new one yesterday for $1.60) or $50 for a pair of my favorite jeans (bought 2 pairs yesterday for $2.40 each that looked brand new) etc. I ended up with a new blazer, 2 pairs of jeans, one wool sweater with tags from the Gap, 3 long sleeved tops nice enough to wear to work, a half-dozen scented Yankee votive candles, a brand new big heavy weight fleece blanket to take to my sons football games (for $1.40!), 7 paperback books, and a pair of mens snow pants, all for about $23. Now I find it MUCH easier to get rid of clothes that aren't "me" because now I know that someone out there will find them and be happy. All the clothes in my closet are the right size except one turtleneck I pulled out yesterday that is a size too big. It went directly in a bag to be given away later. Bud--funny story: We work in a conservative midwestern office where we often get those "trendy" dressing, young, transfers from California coming in. They call it "trendy" but we call it "inappropriate". LOL Julie...See MoreFinally Found Pillows and a Throw for DH's Sofa
Comments (29)Cocktail table will be delivered today! Finally chose this one, also from Wayfair---- funny, I had never been on their site before but it is great for VERY reasonably priced stuff. Decided on this one instead of the Ballard table, because I liked the open bottom shelf rather than a solid one he can junk up too much! It was also cheaper, free shipping, and the kind of planked top I originally wanted. A little hesitant about introducing an arch theme into the room.......will have to see when its unboxed....See MoreCould we talk about throw pillows for a moment?
Comments (24)A sofa should be deep enough that a throw pillows adds support where one needs it. A sofa should not have so many pillows that there is no room to sit. Throw pillow should be down - not even down/feather. Down squishes "just right". One can order them custom made online for very little. I adore Fortuny fabric. But the price is exorbitant! I finally had a client who wanted to use it for an antique settee and for roman blinds in her bedroom. Fortunately, the colors were perfect for me, too! Fortuny used to be priced by the yard but sold by the repeat, and the repeats were often 46" - huge waste of fabric. So, I bought her "waste" fabric at a very good price, and now I have Fortuny pillows on my sofa. Bought the fabric for a 3rd Fortuny prints on eBay - huge bargain and yes, it was genuine - had the markings on the selvage....See MoreRelated Professionals
