chocolate fondue? Do you have some fresh fruit - or make a plan pound cake or angel food cake?

You don't really need a pot, you can melt chocolate and put into a warmed bowl and it'll stay fine for awhile...

I hope she feels better soon.

How about Creme Carmel. I think it would be soothing to an upset tummy.

Crème Carmel

1 Qt milk
2 vanilla beans split lengthwise or 3 tsp pure vanilla extract
(I use the extract but use the good stuff)
2 Cup sugar (divided into ½ cup and 1 ½ cups)
3 Tbl water
1 Drop lemon juice or white vinegar
8 large eggs
4 egg yolks
pinch salt

In large saucepan , over low heat, scald the milk with the vanilla.Remove from the heat and let steep 30 minutes. Then remove beans and discard.

Caramelize an 8 cup round baking dish. Place ½ cup of sugar, water and vinegar or lemon juice in a small sauce pan and cook over high heat until golden, don't let it get dark. Carefully pour the caramel into the baking dish, tipping the dish to ensure the bottom is all covered. Let the caramel harden.

Preheat your oven to 300.

Place the eggs, yolks , 1 ½ cups sugar and salt in a bowl.
Whisk together until the mixture is pale yellow and thickens (I use my KA mixer). Strain the milk mixture into the egg mixture and stir to blend. (be sure the milk has cooled. Sometimes I strain the custard if I think there are any solid bits). Pour this custard mixture into the caramelized baking dish.

Place the baking dish in a larger dish and pour boiling water half way up the outside of the baking dish. Bake 1 ½ to 2 hours or until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean.

Let cook and then refrigerate until ready to serve. To serve run a knife around the edge and invert onto a deep plate. The carmel will run out an fill the dish.
Note: I often make these in individual ramekins. Just adjust the cooking time.

I would do a variation of these, skip the coffee and marshmallows and add raspberries instead.

When my kids were little I used to make a strawberry chiffon pie. I made 2 blind baked crusts and a filling of a package of strawberry jello mixed with 1 cup of hot water, cooled slightly and whipped, I added a package of frozen strawberries and whipped some more, folded in 4 stiffly beaten egg whites merangue...whipped with 3 T of sugar and 1/2 ysp vanilla....pile into the 2c rusts and chill.
It's sure not gourmet....but it's pretty, pink and very light.

How about a jello poke cake?

How about simple cherry turnovers?

Puff pastry, cut in squares.
Dollop of cherry pie filling inside.
Fold over to form triangles.
Cut slits in top.
Sprinkle with coarse sugar.
Bake according to puff pastry directions.

Here's a fast and easy one...
I box on instant chocolate pudding mix (I used sugar free)
1 1/2 cups of heavy cream
2 tbsp Grand Mariner
Pour into a med bowl and whip until soft peaks form.
Put into a baggie and squeeze into margarita glasses and garnish with fresh raspberries.

OMG As you can see this is what DH is getting for dessert tonight....I go the roses yesterday...he is so sweet...

Well our dessert will be grilled pineapple on vanilla ice cream. LOL not exactly chocolatey or red..but I'll have the grill going for dinner..so why not..and pineapples were on sale. :o)

Thanks so much for the great suggestions! As it turned out she was too sick to eat anything, much less dessert. A little chicken broth was all she managed. We have decided to "do" ValentineÂs Day over, next week. Now I have lots of choices to offer!

I am getting over a stomach bug and up until today, the mere mention of dessert or food in general made me...well you know. So, in my home, I officially postponed Valentine's Day until Saturday. Hopefully by then we will all be healthy and can enjoy a nice dinner. Here's hoping everyone else had or will have a nice Valentine's Day.

I see we're not alone! Seems to be a lot of this going around. I have had my share of gastroenteritis in years past (lovely dorm food) but I have never seen anyone as sick as she was. 3 days now without food. She's feeling better today and is drinking enough finally. I offered her every bland food I could think of and she still wanted nothing.
