Years ago, I shared a house with roommates. One of my roommates had a dog that always wanted to sleep in my room. One morning I awoke to find that the dog had chewed open the pillows from my loveseat. The floor was covered in bits of polyester fiberfill. It looked like it had snowed indoors. He had even chewed holes in the arm of the loveseat. I was too young and poor to find the destruction funny. I also didn't know anything about dogs or their behavior. I learned a lot about pets while living in that house.

I had a terrible migraine this past Thursday and had no energy to cook for my kids. So I took them out for fast food, (something I very rarely do) and my son left a few french fries in the bottom of his kid's meal. My Belle sniffed them out, stuck her snout into the bag to retreive them and when she lifted her head, the bag was stuck on her head. She was jumping in circles attempting to get it off, I couldn't stop laughing (mean, I know) and my kids found it even funnier. When I grabbed my phone to snap a pic, I hadn't charged it and it died. Wish I could have a pic of that, it was just too darn funny.

Fortunately for me, Belle no longer gets into any mischeif, just my 2 1/2 year old son, which at times is worse than the trouble a puppy can get into.

When we first got married, we had a very cheap sofa in our living room. Our dog chewed through the fabric on both ends, and pulled out all the stuffing. He could then walk inside and through the sofa!
It was so lightweight, he could pull it around too.

After shopping one day I made the mistake of leaving the bag of cat crunchies at the bottom of the stairs thinking it would be safe and I would bring it up later. Well, I forgot about it and fast forward to the next day and the cats had chewed right through the bag (I can barely tear a bag open and they chewed through it!), tore it up, tipped it over, had their fill and then strewed the crunchies all over the carpet. Not only that, but one of them got sick and threw up all over the carpet and into some of the crunchies. What a mess.

my3dogs, that is really, really funny. Of course, I didn't have to clean it up, but boy did it give me a laugh. So naughty!

All of us who have pets can tell many tales of woe or ridiculous things that they have done. The Toilet Paper Bandit is the same dog who feels that the best place to spend several hours each day is with me IN my office chair, curled up behind me. He's there right now. I am hanging on for dear life, and he (all 50 lbs of him) doesn't mind being wedged in there. He's such a loving kid, who snuggles against me all night long, unless he's shredding TP, that I can forgive that incident.

Fun, I am sure I would have cried if a dog ate my sofa! You just never know when something that they have ignored will suddenly interest them.

Nancy, I can picture that in my mind and OMG! Bad enough that he tunneled through it, but then to pull it around like a toy???

Bfenton - UGH - Been there! My house is hardwood and area rugs, but when someone needs to throw up - they MUST beeline to do it on a rug! WHY is that?

I'm sure you can tell what he had just done here. One less pen to worry about!

I haven't got pics, but I've come home to a house full of puff...from where they've just killed the new toy MIL brought them. Or dirty clothes strewn around (getting into the laundry hamper). Or toilet paper shreds everywhere (DH left the roll off the hanger). Or this morning, they had had a field day last night...I'm suffering from a rotten cold, so DH got fast food last night. I didn't think to put the empty bag & containers in the kitchen garbage (which is in a pull out drawer), I put it in an open can. Well, they got to it, and shredded everything to bits. Then one of them dug out the empty box of dog treats from the recycling bin and THAT was torn to bits. Not to mention the dirty socks from the basket I forgot to take out to the laundry room. DH spent the better part of an hour cleaning up the mess. I was just not amused.

No pics... but one time my dog Rilie ate an entire bag of Halloween candy corn while we were at work. So much sugar made her thirsty, so she drank all the water she could find - including drinking the toilet dry. She then threw up down one of the floor vents for our heat, so the sticky, watery vomit-syrup ran all through our ductwork. We were DAYS cleaning it up.

Our cat knocked a can of paint over on the basement steps, dipped her tail in it and ran thru the house painting the walls with her tail.

I've gotten her back by deciding vacuuming is the only cure for spring shedding.

OMG, Rilie! That's the grossest tale ever, though Daisychain01's cat's tail is pretty disturbing, too. LOL!!!

Ohh rilie sorry but that is just too funny. LOL But I didn't have to clean it up.

Carole, that picture is sooo funny. What a mess, lol. All these stories are so great, love how Riley had to show just how he tore into the tp packages.

One day we left our dog in the motorhome and this is how she greeted us upon our return (sorry the pic is a bit blurry). She was like "hey, I have no clue how this swinging trashcan lid got over my head but I'm still glad to see ya!"

Natesgram, I have one to trade with you! This is 6 days after I adopted Riley. My sweet Joey used to explore my office wastebasket, so I got this ugly plastic one with a lid that thwarted Joey, but not Riley. He wore this several times before I put the wastebasket up on a chair.

And Carole, what ELSE did yours do on that trip outside???

Rilie....You may be the gross-out winner! One of my dogs years ago, Willie, got stung by a bee. I didn't notice anything wrong, and went out for a quick errand. When I came back, I guess he'd had some kind of reaction. He had pulled the seat cushions off my nice Sherrill sofa, rammed his nose down into the corners as far as he could and threw up there! Several other spots, too, but picture trying to clean that...

Maybe I should have titled this post 'Whose pet can gross out all the others?' :-)

I don't have a pet but I do enjoy reading about and seeing pics of yours. I am truly laughing out loud with these stories and pictures.

Keep them coming, they are enjoyable (to those of us who don't have to clean vomit out of odd places).

Rocky, our chocolate lab, has provided MANY stories. He just turned 9 years old and has finally mellowed. He gave up his old tricks of going through garbage, counter-surfing, and stealing food. Or so I thought.

After a year of living in our house with a walk-in pantry Rocky never bothered the food in there. Last week, we came home from soccer practice and my 4-year-old said "Rocky got the prunes." I thought he was just tellling stories. Until I saw the entire 1.5 pound container in the living room. It was unopened in the pantry, but all Rocky left us was pieces of the plasic container. Needless to say, he had a rough night. A call to the vet and several failed attempts to induce vomiting forced us to just let them pass. Our white carpet didn't survive. I learned that a product called "Totally Toddler" works wonders for removing stains of that type.

This might have been naughty. I'm not sure.

Oooh, picturing the 'outcome' of Rocky and all those prunes! But it's nice to get the name of a proven product that works. I'll need to buy a bottle.

Oh my goodness, I've enjoyed the photos so much!!! My3Dogs, I know it was a mess but it sure looks like Riley had a great time with that toilet paper. :-) Caroleho, I have a mud dog too. If there's a puddle anywhere in the yard Jovi will find it!

Thanks for the laughs, I need it. We had our almost 13 yo shep mix Katie put to sleep on Friday after several months of illness. Our 8 yo chocolate lab is bewildered and sad. It's too soon to discuss it with my husband, who is as overcome as Spencer, if we have it in us to have yet another 4 legged pooch, as we're not exactly young ourselves.

While I don't have pictures, I have lots of stories. We had Chester, a German Shorthaired Pointer (found as a stray) many years ago. We had gone out to buy 2 dozen bagels so that we could bring 1 dozen to my SIL who lived in rural NJ and was unable to get bagels. We left and spent the day with my SIL and her kids and when we returned home and I sat down in the living room, I noticed a small piece of plastic bag sticking out from under the sofa cushion. I pulled it out and found that it contained 3 bagels - the remains of the dozen we had left at home. At least he was smart enough to put some away for later.

I also don't have pictures of the tuna cans he would crush and suck out all the tuna from, leaving empty cans strewn around the living room. Or the times he or his brother Chip (also found as a stray - chocolate lab) would open the microwave and steal the bread I eventually learned to hide in there.

Katie, (a shelter rescue) in her youth, ate a couch, for which I forgave her early on. She was one special dog. She babysat for the grands and herded them to her liking.

Spencer the lab is just one goofy dog - he can generally be found loafing on his back.

Blubird, so sorry for the loss of your Katie. She ate a couch??!!?? I know a lab who ate an area rug once, and a beagle/pomeranian cross who ate a down jacket, zipper and all, but a couch takes determination. And a cast iron stomach.

And Whitdobe, thanks for posting a picture of Jovi. I've missed her and her antics.

Yup, Katie ate a couch! She loved anything with foam in it. When we had first met her in the shelter, the volunteers said that the other dogs on either side of her could not have a pillow in their stall, because as soon as that pillow came close to the chain link fencing between the stalls she would manage to get it into her stall. After the couch 'incident' she never damaged anything else.

We also had a dog, Misty, who ate carpeting off the steps and pulled the wallpaper off the bathroom walls.

When we got Boone he was starving. In fact, he still acts like every meal is his last.

A few weeks after he started coming indoors, we had just gone to the store and stocked up for the freezer.

We left all the breads on the counter for me to put up in the morning. Loaf bread, ham. buns, english muffins and tortillas. And a dessert.

The next morning I noticed they were gone and asked DH if he put them in the freezer. He said he was in the LR and heard noise from the kitchen and thought I was in there fixing something to eat. I was sound asleep.

About 30 min. later he got up and found wrappings all over the floor and all the food GONE.

Boone ate everything. Everything! He slept all day but didn't get sick. lol.

And then there was the time Gracie ate a whole meatloaf...... :)

No matter the trouble the pets get in, they always make me laugh!

Loving these photos and stories! Mr. Fluffy often comes in from an illicit swim in the creek looking like Caroleh's dog.... I cannot for the life of me scold him, he is such a dear.

I am laughing out loud at these stories and videos. It's been quite a few years since I've had a pet, but I've had a few over the years. The dogs just did doggie things like steal the roast beef off the counter. Scruffy the mutt we found would sleep on the bed when we weren't home, which he wasn't supposed to do. I'd walk in the back door and hear a thunk from him jumping off the bed. When I went upstairs he'd pretend to be sleeping on the floor, in spite of the bedspread being messed up.

Worst of all were the ferrets. They could and did eat everything. It would go in one end and come out the other in the shape of intestines. I have hot air heat in my house and they used the ducts as their own personal trail system. It was so funny to be sitting in the den and a ferret would be scrabbling behind the duct cover. My son had taken the cover off the duct in his room and they used that to get in and out.

Such cute pictures and stories! I have to share a story about my previous cocker spaniel, Casey, who was the love of our life. My DH and I would take him to a particular park to run and not be on a leash. This park was about 10 miles from our home. One day, Casey was having the best time , running and rolling around in the dirt and grass. So cute! However, when we got up to him, we realized he was NOT rolling around in the dirt, He was rolling around in horse manure!! Fresh horse manure!! He was totally covered and the smell was unbelievable! One cannot imagine how long it takes to drive 10 miles while holding a manure covered cocker!! Thank goodness he had such a sweet face and big sad eyes or he would have been in a world of trouble! (Though he DID have to be shampooed about 3 times and he wasn't very happy about that!)

LOVE that cat threw up in the washing machine post. It started in October 2002, and the lats post in it (so far) is last year!

Not all that nutty or silly, but Riley used to hulk over Jenny while she ate, and so now I bring Sam and Jenny's bowls into my office to eat in peace while Riley wolfs down his meals.

Normally I close the door, but this AM, I left it open. Riley stood in the doorway as long as she ate, ON POINT watching her, not moving until she stepped away from the empty bowl. Brittanys are hunting dogs, so I guess this made sense to him.

I can't believe your dog is pointing at the food bowl. That is so cute. (I like your rug. It looks a lot like mine).

Was she relaxed while eating or was she keeping an eye on Riley? Probably a good thing that you separate them for their meals!

She was relaxed, as she'll give him a piece of her mind if he tried to eat it.

They can all eat in the kitchen, but I just didn't like him standing over her, as she is a slow eater. He won't go into the office until she steps away from her bowl, so he knows who's boss (at half his size.) All 3 of them will lick the same plate with grill drippings, so there are no fights over food, as they know they will each get a piece of whatever is being handed out. They are very gentle taking anything from my hand, too, which is nice.

Here is another Riley fun thing to do...How would like having to ask your dog to get off the toilet so you can use it? He's discovered it's a great place to watch the backyard wildlife from.
