The ribbon cable arrived in a timely manner, but I was so busy I wasn't able to try the repair before today. (Also nervous about trying to do this job.) When I opened up the area, the cables, etc. were not in the exact places shown in the videos. There were two ribbon cables, not one, and the speaker wires were fastened to the same board where the ribbon cables were. Also, I could not remove the speakers as there were no screws holding the speaker bar in place as shown on the video. As it was, all I had to remove was the switch cover and the keyboard. Now the problem was to decide which ribbon cable was the culprit. I removed one and replaced it with the new one, put everything back together and booted up. The quick play buttons did not light up and there was no sound, so I knew I had replaced the wrong cable. So back to work, put the original ribbon cable back and switched the new one over to the other location. Voila! I now have sound and everything lights up properly. In addition, the quick play buttons are now working again. Many, many thanks to owbist and others for their help, and many thanks to Mr. Flicker on the HP forum for the instructions for making this repair.

Could it be a malfunctioning remote control? The channel changing does not seem to be related to the sound problem. Are you connecting your stereo system to the AUDIO OUT connections on the TV or is there a cable or satellite box involved?

Model Number MWC24T5 24 inch This TV is just a little over a year, used only about 5 times. It has no sound or pic. A repairman came to the house, said it was the power supply and replaced the part. TV worked for two days then the same thing happened. The same TV repairman came to the house and said that there was a wire loose, and tighten it. Another couple of days, the same thing no pic or sound. The same repairman came to the house, said he would have to take it in. He never came back and closed up shop. Through the Consumer Protection Agency I was able to get my TV back but with the same problem. Since it's not worth it to pay someone else to repair it nor is it worth it for me to file a law suit, I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem might be and/or what I can check for.

If you are getting HDTV over the air or by cable, it may have surround sound encoded into it. You'd have to consult your cable provider. I'm not sure about broadcast TV these days, I'm more into obsolete technology than current. If you were to Google "Does HDTV have surround sound?" you will find some stuff to read. Recorded movies (DVDs) should have a logo or other info printed on them indicating whether they have Dolby surround, standard stereo, mono, etc. Cd and radio are two channel music and should be played that way, IMHO. If you like something other than two channel, like Concert Hall or Jazz Club settings, by all means use them.
