Philips Magnavox 60' projection TV problem (Chase#PTV385)

Hi Pee-Wee,

My Philips/Maganavox projection tv (SN#9P60349102, Chase#PTV385) started shrink to three colored small boxes (I can hear the sound and see the blurred pictures) when turn on power, then back to full screen after warm up for 5 to 10 minutes about a month ago. Now it takes 30+ minutes to stablize on full screen and getting worse. Do you have any idea what went wrong?

Most likly defective(marginal)filter capacitors in the power supply, or defective solder connections. No "silver bullet", but that will take some trouble-shooting.

Thank you very much for the help! I looked at the power supply circuit and found one capacitor's solder connection is melted, it is located between two metal plate and labeled 2913. I can not see the value on it. Do you know it's size? I'll take it off tomorrow to see if I can find one in the Radio Shack to replace it and let you know the result.

I replaced both STKs. They were STK392-110. I also replaced all twelve resistors. Got them from an online store. Magnavox Convergence Repair Kit TV-KIT-008. All the same issues though. What else could it be. Any suspect fuses that may be bad.

My 48" magnavox projection screen Model no. RL8544 Chassis no. PTV385-A001. Im having some problems, and hope you can help. Was working fine, then picture went black, Still have perfect sound, but no pic. Pic came on, then went out while I was watching, If I turn it off, and on again picture will come on for a split second, then go out again. picture looks fine when it comes on tho. Im really hoping you have an answer for me. hopefully its an easy fix. I cant afford a new one. Thanks for your help.
