You can let your fingers do the walking through the Internet. You likely won't find much usable information on sites which sell this brand. Poke around sites that discuss the consumer electronics industry. Try to trace the company to a U.S. location and then use a Web/Usenet search engine to learn more about its locations outside the U.S. Read press releases by the company announcing agreements with other TV makers/sellers. If all this still proves less than helpful, consider a visit to your local library. They have many journals/periodicals which would cover this kind of thing. Not everything is on the Internet. Yet. :-)

The FCC-ID numbers are unique to a manufacturer so you can usually trace those back to a particular manufacturer.

Also you might check the UL number.

I think the "famous" label they refer to is their own, as Proton was apparently once a big electronics manufacturer in the 80s, but faded into oblivion a while ago.

Seems to have gotten good reviews, but as it is VERY recent this manufacturer reemerged and people have started buying this TV, there is no way to estimate quality in terms of longevity.

Thanks missor88 for the link. Yes the reviews look decent. I have been seeing shopathome or is it shopnbc selling this brand & the prices are good & the abiity to make 6 installment payments is awesome. They do mention that they make the same tv for several very well known companies & all they do is change the label for theirs, so I was wondering WHICH companies - like if it's a Sharp or Toshiba or other repuable companies. I did write Protron an e-mail. For some odd reason they didn't understand my question which seemed prettty simple but I replied back redefining my question. I hope to hear from them next wk. I wonder if they can divulge that info though.

As far as FCC-ID #s or UL #s - wouldn't I need to have the tv to know those #s?

Hi...I bought the Protron LCD TV off of NBC Home Shopping Network. After it was hooked up, I have to say I was very disappointed. While it's nice to have a large computer screen, the print is usually blurry. So far as the picture on the tv or watching dvds, the colors bleed, not a clear picture and if you don't line your sight perfectly, the screen is too dark most of the time. Well, that's my feedback. Lesson learned: buy electronics in person where you can see/hear the quality. Good Luck!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Well I'm glad I found out. I just had a feeling - if it sounds too good....

In addition I would never have bought without finding out what others felt about it. I have had terrible experiences with HSN in the past & their quality usually stinks. If it were QVC offering the deal I'd jump on it b/c not only do I find their quality better but their customer service is absolutely superb!

I hope I'm not to late to this thread, seems it may have died off, anyway, purchasing ANYTHING electronic these days is a gamble, no matter who makes it. With transistors, computer chips and so on, they could burn out in a day or in 10 years, it's up in the air. I purchased the 32" protron from shopnbc, as it is right now, it is outstanding. After reading so many bad reviews about it, I was terrified i had made a huge mistake. The picture is unbelievable, sound is very good, just a beautiful product(so far). What many people don't seem to realize is that a tv can only reproduce what it is given, if you have poor cable signal or an old dvd with a dirty lens, yes your new tv is gonna show that. With regular cable many of the stations were perfect, others looked awful, i did call and get digital and hdtv(free with digital cable)and the picture quality is outstanding.
