best dvd recorder for recording from dvr???

I couldn't find any current postings regarding this question and with electronics, "current" is important.

I record the same shows each day from my DVR (ReplayTV). I subscribe to Comcast cable. I want to record these same shows to a DVD so I can take it with me to play on a DVD Player occasionally. Most of them seem to require connecting it to a PC afterwards to burn the DVD. I want to avoid that step. I want to be able to take out the DVD and have it immediately available for use.

I was told by a Best Buy employee that what I'm looking for is the Sony RDR-GX355. It has unconversion to 1080i with an HD tuner, multi-format recording, HDMI output and one touch dubbing. It sounded like it does exactly what I want it to do.

However, the reviews I've read on it have not been very good. Some of them say you can't record from HBO or other movie channels because of copyright messages and that it isn't reliable and various other "cons." I was wondering if any of you have experience with that one or any other that would work well for me. Basically, I only want to record ABC, NBC and CBS channels. And its important that it complete the recording without having to hook it up to a computer to burn it to the DVD (UNLESS THAT'S EASIER THAN IT SOUNDS).

I'm basically electronically challenged so please speak English.

I was on the walmart site and there are 4 combo units and none list a TV tuner in the description like the one I have now did. Now I see in reading reviews people complained they could only be used with a cable box to record from TV so no basic cable or am I missing something? If I get just a DVD recorder will I run into the same problem or can you buy the tuner separate to make it work? If I get a new flat screen can I just use a Dvd recorder on basic cable with no box or do you just need a digital tuner no matter what to record from TV? This is something I do all the time. I save programs from my DVR, which is in the bedroom to play back on my kitchen television, which does not have the DVR service. You simply connect a VCR, or a DVD recorder, to the DVR. Im thinking you already have a VCR, or get a DVD recorder, which can be purchaced at any Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, or Circuit City. In other words they are easy enough to come by, if you do not have one. Connect it to your DVR, according to the instructions that come with the machine. Now just record your shows on the DVR, as usual, and play them back through the DVD recorder, or VCR at will. If you are using a DVD recorder these recordings can be played back with any DVD player. It could get very complicated if you are wanting to record tv on both a DVR and a DVD. Do you know for a fact that your DVD recorder has it's own tuner? If it does not, you will only be able to record the channel that your Dish box is tuned to if you can connect it to the Dish box. If it does have it's own tuner, then perhaps a splitter would do. To me, installing an amplifier/splitter on the incoming satellite feed would be the best way to approach this. Each device could then be programmed and controlled separately. We still need to know if there are enough inputs on the tv to accept multiple devices and what type they are. It might be possible to accomplish this with a splitter only, but you might need a satellite tech to determine if the signal loss by being split would be detrimental to viewing/recording.

I have a Time Warner Cable Box with DVR as part of the box. I have the capability of recording several hours of progamming. As the programs are recorded they are put on a list, latest first and then you can view them at your leisure. Shortly, I will buy an HDTV and will have to change the cable box. I would like to pick out a few of the saved programs and record them on a DVD. I have a combination DVD/VCR recorder that I just purchased. I tried to do this without results. Although I did get the audio part. Does anyone know if and how this can be done ? Thanks.
