Has anyone had good luck with any portable tvs?

I've had several portable tvs (like 5"-7" screens) - the Action tv did last a while. I need it mainly for the car. The problem with the Action seems to be the cigarette lighter connection but I've bought two or three connections at Radio Shack and have the same problem (different brands, too). It would power up, or it takes a long time to power up and then if you barely tap the tv or hit a bump, it goes out. I paid $115 for a Trinity and it didn't work well. Very frustrating.

So I bought two others and could barely get reception, if at all, returned them. Just bought a Sylvania at Best Buy for $30 and it was great the first couple of days and when it DOES get a picture, its a good one. Since then, sometimes it comes on, sometimes not, and sometimes it powers up but without a picture at all. This one does seem to take bumps easier though.

I was wondering if any of you have had good luck with a particular one and if you used it in a car. I don't want one you have to have installed. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Stilwelljill, it's one of my favorite books and the one I turn to most often. The kind of really really good book you will always be glad you bought - I can't begin to tell you how much I've learned from it. I have his Passion for Gardening too, but Making More Plants is one of the best I've seen for all kinds of propagating, not just sowing, and so well illustrated it's hard to make a mistake. Try Amazon, or Ebay for a nice copy at less than full price.

Anyone had any luck with blackberries in a dry Z5?

I, too, grew up in Oregon (Hood River) and feasted on blackberries, wild and domesticated. I bought some plants (Marianberries and Boisenberries) when I was up there a couple of years ago and decided to give it a try. I have not had time to pamper them but they have survived. Last year when I used 16-16-16 fertilizer on them and gave them more water they produced quite well. I have been slacking this year so they probably won't produce as well but they sure look healthy.

Sometimes if you don't see it growing around or offered at good locally owned nurseries it probably isn't going to thrive in our climate. Some of the taller growing salvias or amaranths might be a good substitute. Others will be offering some other ideas for plants that might take it's place.

If I recall correctly, Sparta is CGI's "value" product impact window. While I know that its part of CGI, I don't know the exact relationship, i.e. if it's a separate sub-corp or simply a product line. When CGI was purchased by PGT Sparta came along for the ride. I can't comment on the quality of Sparta specifically, but in my experience CGI has been known to build a good window.
