Honeybells - White Elephant

Honeybell season is here!! I am sending a box to a CF member and would like to "white elephant" a box to another lucky recipient. The growers tell me that this is the best season in over a decade. They are so good in Annie's Orange Marmalade!! Unfortunately, I cannot send any from the neighbor's trees as the FL Department of Agriculture only allows shipping fruit from certified growers for the past two years due to citrus canker regulations. I'm not on the forums much anymore (that darn job keeps me busy!) but I will leave the posting up for a week and draw the lucky name next Friday, January 18th. Good luck!!!

Tx,are you thinking it might be possiable to identify the material by observation making lab analysis unnessary? It is in a supersack type bag. 1. Various earth tone colors 2. Not completly 3. (A) It was in a warehouse which had been occupied by a landscaper. (B) The smell is consistant with that in a feed and seed store. (C) I reasoned it was left behind because unlike the truck which delivered it ,they didn't have a fork lift . The gambler in me said the odds were favorable at the price. Caution is why I don't plan using it until analized. Actually,if I knew for 100% certain it is plant food,I would still want it analized for nutrent %. I figure to kill two birds with a single stone with lab results. Knowing based on it having high nutrent or lack of nutrent if it is plant food and if so,if it is 1-3-0 , 3-2-1 or such and such. While anything is always possible,I would expect the container to be far more resistant to puncture if it contained hazardous material. My primary concurn is how much of what nutrents it has and wherther it has pesticide or herbicide in it.

Hi It was raining when the pic was taken the selaginella at the left normally appears bright blue Was rather disappointed with the plant due to the damage but also wrong species . it would go back loll If you look closely at the upper edge you can see a bit of the back which is very velvety white . All the fronds were that way. Actually much whiter than my silver Joey .J. magnifica. know of no pritchardia with that characteristic ?? Like I've actually seen all 30/40 species in every stage of growth lol I'm still a bit suspicious as it has grown another frond which is starting open already lol Very weird "slow growing understory palm " The magnifica produces less than 2 fronds per year !! Also ,obviosly grown from seed and I was unable to locate a source Besides we all know that nurseries NEVER have plants with wrong ID'S lol Time will tell I guess Thanks gary

I know what you mean. I only discovered last year that if you don't cut the flower off immediately (which was my method cuz I despised the flower) YOU GET SEEDS! This year I'm leaving the flower scapes until I find out which ones produce seeds. Then I'm gonna harvest them this fall and try my hand at growing them over the winter. Plus the fragrant ones, I cut off and put them in a vase on my kitchen table. Plantaginea, so sweet and honneybells is my combination and it makes the house smell wonderful.

I received my BINGO seed bags, I did not have this handy 2" by 3" size. It was a cliffhanger if the package would come, in the window between the back hoe and bulldozer leaving and me leaving. It did. The two named iris* are soaking their feet tonight, wondering where they are, trying to talk to the little tomato seedlings and learning to love the sound of "Chelsea Dagger". I am expecting my shipment from Gregory's (or maybe Cushman's this year...I don't remember) any day now so I don't need to be included- just wanted to say very nice, Andi. Good to know it is a great crop this year.

They are tangelos or tangerines? I have never seen them.

Mindy, they are very juicy and sweet tangelo type oranges. They are harvested in early January in Florida. We usually have two harvests here, both in January. This has been a very good year for Honeybells.

I lived in Florida for three years and loved honeybells. During this time of year, I always drove with my windows down to inhale the heady scent from the groves. My mom came to visit once and had her head out the window like a streamlined dog.
So yes, I am definitely in.

Getting the Honeybells have become a tradition for us. My husband loves them! He likes to carry a couple around and share.
