Clinique yellow moisturizer is wonderful. I don't use sunscreen when I'm wearing make-up because I wear mineral make-up with natural sunscreen (zinc oxide). But otherwise, if I'm outside, I've got sunscreen on.

I've just started with a Boots night time moisture (repair).

My skin is fairly dry and sensitive.

I used Clinique yellow moisturizer and also their facial soap for dry skin for years.

But I now use Cetaphil daily moisturerizer- that has 15 spf. My Derm recommended it and I like it very much. I have some night cream but I hardly use it. When I used the clinique, I used a night cream every night in winter.I don't need to use any night cream with this.

Shee- when I had combination skin- I would only moisturerize the dry parts and avoided any breakouts that way. but you probably know that.

Of course I post this and a little a while later my t zone is oily for the first time in a long time. From my eye area down the middle hasn't been oily all winter. Could just be a seasonal thing.

I always thought where you have dry skin you're less likely to break out. That's where my breakouts seem to happen.

I noticed my skin started to get a little weird after I switched foundations. I used Artistry Absolute Oil Control foundation for 10ish years and they "reformulated it" so I didn't reorder. I'm now using Clinique Even Better and don't love it.

*Ramble alert - Makes me think of another issue, I noticed since I switched, when I'm overheated/sweating my face will sometimes get stingy in spots. I assumed it was the foundation but my face doesn't get red when this happens and it's not all the time. Before this started happening with foundation switches, my face got like that at the gym (even with the old foundation) but I assumed it was from the Simple Green cleaning solution getting on my hands then touching my face = stinging. I was ready to continue to foundation search last year but then it got cold out and the stinging didn't happen anymore. So I'm trying to figure out if this is a normal thing of dry skin, the foundation, the foundation paired with the moisturizer and or the sunscreen I was using. -Did a couple different tests and thought it was the sunscreen but later didn't make a difference. I considered switching back to "new" Artistry but the oil control might be too much now. Not to mention it's not enough coverage which brings me to - how the heck do you cover those lovely dark purple acne scars that I didn't have before? I know, another topic entirely. I've gotten pretty good building and blending the Clinique foundation in those spots but if I switch... And in case you're wondering why I bothered to keep using something that made my face sting - like I said it wasn't all the time, didn't think my skin was sensitive and my uber sensitive skin sister is able to use it. Weird.

I used Clique for years (Yellow one) and loved it. Now, I use Burt's Bee Primrose overnight cream and I love it too. I think since your pretty young you should go with the Clique. Just like you brush and floss every night always moisturize as well. Heard that from my 91 year old mother and her skin is still gorgeous.

I use Olay for sensitive skin spf 30 moisturizer under my foundation.
Never gives me breakouts and I do get them still at 46 if I am not careful.

I use Estee Lauder "Swiss performing extract" as a stand-alone moisterizer and also under my make-up. It leaves my skin soft without being greasy.

Shee, before you start spending a lot of money and possibly irritating the skin more, I'd go see a Dermatologist in case you have Eczema or something.

I know my late MIL had eczema from time to time and couldn't wear anything scented, and when we were cleaning out her house the other day I took home a bottle of lotion because I have dry hands really bad in the winter.

What I got was Cetaphil which Cooper mentioned. I looked it up online and it seems to be dermatologist "recommended."

Another dermatologist recommended product which worked for bad dry patches on my baby son's arms is Eucerin. It used to be by prescription but it's OTC now. Don't get the lotion, buy the stuff in a jar, it's much thicker.

Put it ONLY on the dry patches though.

If you don't want to go to the doctor, buy a lotion like this and only treat the dry areas because it can be a bit oily. I do like it though! It takes time for the skin to absorb it but it helps me tremendously.

I use Neutrogena moisturizer with sunscreen for daytime. For nightime I use Pro-Derm Regenerating Cream.

Do you take Omega 3 or fish oil supplements? Has lots of benefits including relieving dry skin from the inside out.

Sue, I should try the cetaphil moisturizer as I've used the cleanser for years. My skin is a bit sensitive though and like Shee, some sunscreens are irritating to me.

My daughter has similar skin to your, it sounds like. A little oily, a little dry and a few breakouts. I found CeraVe for her and she loves it. It is cheap and gets phenomenal reviews. My sense is that its similar to Cetaphil...minimalist but effective.

I use Strivectin on my older, dryer skin and my skin has never looked better. But it is pretty heavy duty stuff. Wish it had sunscreen...

EWG makes me crazy. We try hard to minimize our chemical exposure and have used their info to revamp our soap, shampoos, etc. I am just waiting to hear that Strivectin is carcinogenic....I don't want to know. :-( I figure I'll die with fewer wrinkles....just keep eating broccoli!!

Was just coming over to tell you about CeraVe! I agree with Amy, it's really good stuff, and you can find it at the drugstore for a very reasonable price. It's light, but effective.

Clinique's "yellow" moisturizer is good to a point. It has some nice anti-irritants in it. I like to use it sometimes too. But your skin also needs vitamins and cell-communicating ingredients and antioxidants. The CeraVe gives you all those state of the art goodies...at a remarkable price!

The Cetaphil gentle cleanser (not sure if it supposed to be used on your face or just body), makes my face feel like I didn't wash it after use. Maybe it's just that I didn't totally strip all the oils off, lol.

I don't think I ever saw CeraVe anywhere. I'll look today while out.

Those EWG site for that and cosmetics really gets overwhelming and frustrating to the point where I'm like, just forget it. Most of the makeup I use fits in the mid range stuff. I was sitting there last night looking and saying,"Won't give up that, really like that, just bought a new one of that....."

Then I was looking at Badger sunscreens and the unscented SPF 30 lotion isn't marked as a moisturizer but falls under beach and sport. Looks like it has good stuff in it (vit E etc) but I wonder if it would be too much to wear under makeup. I read somewhere that really sunscreen was really a moisturizer with SPF.

I haven't been taken fish oils for some time now and I did think of that. My diet has taken a fall as well as my water intake and exercising too as of late. Still mad that I can't run and have a poor attitude about the whole thing so I haven't done anything - which I know is really stupid. I'm curious to see how the bridesmaid dress I'm trying on today fits.

I was going to mention drinking water.

I've always thought cetaphil cleanser is for the face, but I guess it could be all-over. They have a version that is for normal to oily - my hubby uses that. His skin isn't really oily - more normal - but he is outdoors alot and gets sweaty, which can make you feel oily. You might want to try that version.

I ended up buying CeraVe lotion and liked it at first. Recently though my cheecks are feeling pretty dry again and it's "summer". :( Does anyone have the CeraVe Cream? Is it really any heavier than the lotion? I've read reviews where people used it on their face. I'd just use it on the areas that feel tight at this point. Man, I'd take my slick oily skin back any day of this. My face is starting to look older and I'm having a fit. I'd also take back those years of tanning! Ever wonder what your skin would look like if you didn't bake yourself for years?

I haven't tried the Clinique yellow moisturizer yet because honestly I'm being cheap about it. I did have a sample of the Moisture Surge (pink stuff) but it wasn't "the one" either.

I was using Witch Hazel for a while but as of today I'm done. That very well could be contributing to the dryness.

If you have a Merle Norman near you, book a skin care lesson (free) and let them suggest products. Not cheap, but you don't use a ton, either, and if you are not happy with the product, they will take them back.

Merle Norman is often recommended by dermatologists for basic skin care.

Oh, I wanted to mention I bought DeVita Moisturizer SPF 30 to use during the day. It's also not been quite enough for my cheecks as of late.

I'm going to try it. I just spent a good bit of time reading reviews for the CeraVe Cream and it's rated high. I just kept thinking it was meant to be used just for the body but lots of people use on the face. One reviewer said her dermatologist says to apply it right after you dry your face off while it's still damp to "lock" in the moisture. We'll see.

Shee, you should always apply moisturizer to damp skin to take advantage of the moisture already there. Also, you want to look for a moisturizer that has a humectant, which draws moisture from the air and into the skin.

Finally, at night, you want to do a two-step process. Cleans your skin (no soap, no really hot water, no scrubbing, no witch hazel, no anything to strip your skin of all the oils). Then, apply your moisturizer, and give it a couple of minutes to be absorbed. Finally, add a layer of an oil-based product to help seal in the moisture. You were kind of trying that with the Vaseline, but unless you put a layer of moisturizer on first, the Vaseline won't help a lot. Moisture and oil are two different things - your skin can benefit from both.

That makes sense about applying moisturizer to damp skin. Never gave that any thought.

The CeraVe does have Hyaluronic Acid in it but I may need something stronger.

Are you saying I can actually use Vaseline over the moisturizer? I would think it would clog pores? If not Vaseline, do you have any suggestions?

I have tried so many and always have had trouble with moisturizers. I often went without any because of small flare-ups from them . Then I discovered Cetaphil. I love it, I use it for cleaning the skin and then I use the moisturier(no Oil in it).
I would highly recommend it.
