Corn Bread with whole wheat and applesauce?

So, I've got a nice pot of Lima beans on the stove. Tonight is vegetarian night. Hubby has bad cholesterol so I've been learning how to cook all over again! We do fish on M,W,F. Chicken on T and S. Thursdays are vegetarian or CHEESE. And Sunday is anything we want, lol. For me that's a big plate of potato pancakes with sour cream, applesauce and maybe some of Malna's cabbage rolls on the side. Heaven.

Enough chit chat, sorry. I've been googling recipes for whole wheat corn bread, to go with the Limas. Have you ever made corn bread with whole wheat? I even found a recipe that had applesauce in it, for moisture, which I think might be a nice addition to avoid the butter. I made cornbread once with the white-whole wheat and it was terrible.

Here's the recipe I usually use and I was just thinking of subbing whole wheat and adding a little apple sauce. Whatcha think?

1/2 cup flour

3/4 cup corn meal

pinch sugar (maybe more this time or honey??)

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1/8 cup oil

Milk - until it looks right

If you have a recipe you like, please share.
