cool new cooking toy

One of my Christmas presents was the Food Pod, an ingenious silicone bag with holes. With it, you can boil or steam vegetables, eggs, really anything, and pull everything out at once. It's tethered to the side of the pot. And, best of all, it isn't ugly. The silicone is clear and yellow.

I agree with Julia Child that most vegetables are best cooked in a large amount of boiling, salted water, so this is perfect for me. I don't have to pour all the hot water down the drain, or else fish things out. I just pull out the pod. Then the pot of hot water can warm up the kitchen instead of the drain. It was perfect for broccoli; six minutes in boiling water, then all out at once. The holes are a little too big for green beans, but only a few escaped, so I'll still use it for them.
