Food Storage Tips?

As much as I want to get more fresh vegetables into my diet, I seem to have a problem with storing them very long because I am usually cooking for just one person -

o.k., the pup gets some of my vegetables too.

Do you wash and dry your vegetables when you get home from shopping? How do they last for you?

Rachael Ray says to do this, but then she is cooking for more than just one person.

Do you have any vegetable storage tips or general food storage tips that can be posted here too?

A few tips from me:

- portions of bell peppers and onions last longer for me (in the fridge) if I don't completely seal the zip bag but leave a corner of the bag open

- I've read that sour cream and cottage cheese store better if you turn the carton upside down in the fridge - will try this

- potatoes need to be stored in a cool, dark place so I use a brown paper bag (with a few holes punched in it for air) in the pantry

Thanks!

Teresa
