I use a couple of paper napkins or paper towel. Same thing for the outside grill. Soak it in a bit and wipe away and toss. Never thought about using anything else actually.

I've started using a silicone brush for my cast iron skillet that I use under the broiler. Seems to work fine.

A paper towel....but after many years, my griddle has become very well seasoned and often I don't use any additional grease.

I guess paper towels are in the majority here. I get fancy though, fold it back and forth, back and forth, into about a 2 inch strip which I then fold over (rather like when you made a paper "fan" as a kid...or turkey tail feathers for a thanksgiving card :D )and then cut the edge into a fringe...Ta da! Paper Pastry Brush!

I was surprised no one asked what kind of griddle. Electric, cast iron or what? On my teflon electric I use butter to grease it so I take a stick of butter remove some of the paper and rub over the preheated surface of the griddle (doesn't matter if it is teflon or not) if too much is applied I lightly wipe off with a paper towel (unless I am making eggs then I let the excess on). On a cast iron griddle it needs to be thoroughly preheated before applying any oil, I use paper towels (and on occassion I have slightly burned myself from not using a think enough wad)

paper towel or silicone brush..if it's a one time use I don't bother using the brush..but if I have to reapply...I'll use the brush..

crumpled up piece of waxed paper-- same way I "grease" cake pans & cookie sheets if I'm not using parchment paper.

Or, a balled up coffee filter works well. Less lint than most paper towels.

Karen: It's a griddle that goes on the big fifth burner in the middle of the stove. It's cast iron.

The paper towel sounds easy enough to do as long as I don't burn myself.

I've used tampons that a friend from Mexico City left after a visit. I didn't have any other use for them, but they were handy for oiling a griddle or a hot cast iron pan. I've mentioned this before, but I don't think the idea caught on.

Alternatively, you can also use a cotton ball held in tongs, or a paper towel folded in half and rolled into a cigar shape. I started doing that after I ran out of Mexican tampons.

I also use paper towels but I don't use my fingers... I use the end of the spatula to move the folded paper towel around... That way I can slide the towel into the thingy that holds the drippings and have it handy if I need to re-grease between batches...

I was pam on my griddle but now it's well seasoned don't need to spray any longer.

LOL on the tampons and their many uses! If you slightly pull a tampon and it will open, sprinkle baking soda in it, tie it tightly and then hang then inside my nonwashable garments like heavily beaded gowns. Works like a charm to remove any body odors. I learned this trick from a designer that worked with Bob Mackey.

On my cast iron griddle, I do a lot of fish, vegetable grilling etc so I just pour a dab of evoo on it ..cold..and use my fingers to rub it around, then turn up the heat. The little bit on my hands just gets rubbed in..natural hand lotion. For the ribbed side, I use a oil mister.

I drizzle the oil in the general vicinity where I will be cooking and just scoot it around a bit with the spatula. The griddle is seasoned well enough that the spots I miss don't matter.

Mine's a non-stick electric and I've never oiled it.

Makes sense that it would work though. Way to keep "trash" out of the landfill.....at least without using it 2 or 3 times first!!
