I agree, the broccoli looks delicious, as does the watermelon rind. Now, that brings me to the question of whether you consider watermelon a fruit or a vegetable? (grin)

What I really like, though, is the plate that the fried "stuff" is on, sitting next to the broccoli!

This sounds silly, but I think I'm growing some of that Chinese broccoli. I have a broccoli-like plant in my garden, but I've forgotten what it is. I've been wondering what to do with it. Your picture helps me figure out what part to eat, but I think I've let the plants get too big.

Thanks stinky. Very simple indeed, this is what the OP asked for. I enjoy plain fresh vegetable tastes. Do you add anything to fresh fruits? I treat fresh vegetables like fresh fruits as much as possible. The broccoli was blanched in chicken stock, and the chicken stock was used for other dishes.

But when I cook for others, I will put cream, cheese, butter, bacon and lots of salt ---------.

Thanks Annie. Is watermelon rind a fruit or vegetable? It gets even more complicated because that dish was braised in tomato sauce. Many friends have become enemies because they cannot agree on whether tomato is a fruit or a vegetable. :-)

Thanks Sally. I tried to grow broccoli. It didn�t work very well because I don�t have enough sun in my garden.

Thanks Susie. I am lucky that we have so many Chinese, Spanish, Indian stores in all the boroughs in NYC. I have such varieties of vegetables to enjoy.

Why do people insist on drowning them in sauces, spices, butter, etc?

Well, I do enjoy a little butter on most cooked vegetables.
But forget all the cream sauces, spices, herbs, etc.
Let the natural vegetable shine through!

Always unusual combinations and great pictures. Now I want Chinese brocolli. I don't grow it because I can get big bunches of it for $1 at the Farmer's Market in the summer. I might have to hit an Asian market tomorrow.

One of my favorite things to eat is thin slices of red radishes splashed with seaasoned rice vinegar and sprinkled with toasted black sesame seeds.

Dcarch, so you blanched the Chinese broccoli in chicken stock...for how long? Do you serve it right away, or drop in ice water to stop it from cooking further? Thanks!

Thanks Rusty. My favorite snack before bedtime: Fresh veggie a few minutes in the microwave, shake it up in the container with EVOO and a few drops of fish sauce and a sprinkle of pepper.

Thanks teresa. I agree, broccoli is not easy to grow. It bolts quickly when it gets warm. I do the same with icicle radishes.

I always serve it right away. Dropping in ice water will wash away the chicken stock. I blanch the broccoli just when it turns soft but still crunchy. It looks so green, that�s why the Chinese call it "Jade Tree"

I plant crops like broccoli in the fall. Here in Texas that's about the only time we can grow it. It lasts all winter, along with all the cole crops, lettuces and other leafy greens. Sometimes I'll try broccoli in the spring, but our springs are very unpredictable - we never know whether we'll even have one, or if we'll go straight from winter to summer. That's usually the case.

Teresa, that radish recipe sounds really good. Do you season your rice vinegar, or is that a product you buy? If you make it yourself, can you share the recipe? Thanks!

Sally - I buy the seasoned rice vinegar. But you can add a pinch of sugar to regular rice vinegar instead. Note that seasoned rice vinegar you buy also contains some salt.

And I just put the black sesame seeds in a pan and toast on a low heat.

It is my favorite thing to eat when it is hot and humid.
