Very cool!!

Wow! Beats the He!! out of the 4 shelves of La Choy in the local grocery store! So big and so clean. I love the tanks of live fish / eels and other critters of the sea!

Thanks for the report! I'm definitely putting it on my list of places things to visit. Queens has so much to offer yet for some reason it seems so far away even though it's not. Navigation show it at 37 minutes.

If only I lived in NY instead of the boonies of NC! > We do have a nice Asian market about an hour away and another about 2 hours away, neither of which sell any fresh seafood -- oh for some eel and fresh seaweed! Even at the NC beaches (a four hour drive), with all their glorious seafood, they never offer those treats, and the little sardine-type fish are only sold for bait.

Getting to Flushing from Manhattan is a trek also, Nancy, and the last time I went I had a car service, but it still took 45 minutes. I was going to see a glass manufacturer, which is why I had a driver. I don't know how long it would have taken on the subway, since I never left Manhattan on the subway.

I'm wondering what Chinese pizza is like - I've never had that. I had Mexican pizza in Austin and did not like that - too much cornmeal in the crust - it was more like a tortilla.

In general, I prefer medium sized or small markets to huge ones, although we have a huge Korean market here that I do like. If I were in Manhattan, I would prefer not to have to cross the East River but would make exceptions. For the people of Queens, it is a great looking market, however. It reminds me a bit of Monterey Park, which is worth a trek once in a while.

I'm also curious as to what you bought.

Lars, I was also wondering what a pizza would be like there, probably the same as here, and nothing like they are in Italy, I imagine.

The shop in Ann Arbor also has fresh seafood of all types, so fresh that it's still alive, LOL, and in tanks. I've not had the nerve to buy any yet.

The interesting thing is, on the same block Main Street, there are 5 or 6 other stores selling the same stuff within walking distance from each other, and they are not small shops either. In addition, there are many small store front shops.

They all are doing great business. Weekends it would be shoulder to shoulder shoppers.

When I was there, I did not buy a lot of stuff because I was wearing suit & tie for the party, and I did not bring my cooler with me to shop for meat and seafood.

I understand there is an even bigger one planned to open in about a year.

I would have to shop with a ATV.

If I ever go there, I will take my DD with me and give her a list of what I want.

Meanwhile I will wait for her in that Restaurant and try the Chinese Pizza.

I shy away from places like that, because I only cook or bake, down home style mostly.

That is why I live in the Pocono Mts. LOL !!!

The new Walmart here is very large.
I went there once, that was it.

Forgot something, one of the Woman Checkers said," it is all the way over there ".
( half mile across the store )

I go to the meduim sized Walmart in Mt Pocono.
Most of your NY.Paisanos shop there.
They are building a gigantic Lowes , right across from Walmart.

That is going to really screw up traffic.

I've spent the morning googling, looking for a reliable mail order source for dried lily buds, Chinese black mushrooms, wood ears and white pepper (making h & s soup). My prior go to was the Oriental Pantry in MA, but it seems they are out of business.

Thanks pauline. I like the live seafood tanks a lot, and I like their $1.00 a bag chicken bones, beef bones and pork bones for making stock.

I have seen places that you can order Asian ingredients on-line. Obviously there is no need for me to keep the links. If I come across them I will post the links.

But you have so many other good things to offer in France.

When I was in Paris, I stayed in an apartment a block from The Avenue des Champslyses, a few blocks from Arc de Triomphe. There was an area where I was able to shop for fresh food not very far away. Fresh meats, live seafood, vegetables, etc. I was shopping and cooking for every meal.

I was in heaven.
