There were some recent discussions about fennel.

It occurred to me that fennel, wild rice and lamb flavors should be compatible.

Lamb Loin Chops sous vided, fennel stuffed with wild rice.

Thank you very much Teresa for the wild rice, this combination was very good.

I am attempting to grow some wild rice (zizania aquatica) in a small seasonal creek in my backyard. I just got the seed I ordered and have yet to plant it. I have widened and deepened the creek in one area, about 18 feet long. It is deep enough that it should retain water all year long, unless we get a severe drought. Does anyone have suggestions about sowing the seed, or other growing advice? I live in central AL, 7b. Thanks

I haven't seen Wild Rice in person, but from web photos it looks like Biscotti, Truffle and Cafe Brown would all work well. Do you want a light colored sink or a dark sink? I chose Cafe Brown to go with my Magma Gold granite mainly because I have been fighting with a white solid surface sink since we moved here 5 years ago. I hated that sink, impossible to keep clean! My sink before that was a dream, Blanco SS which I loved, but I wanted something different for this kitchen, so I went with the Diamond Super Single. I struggled between Truffle and Cafe Brown, but decided I liked the look of the dark sink better. Good luck with your decision, the Wild Rice is very nice!

Oh! I get it now. I wasn't trying to put you on the spot. Just trying to answer. My favorite place to buy them in smaller quantities (no more than a pound or two at a time) is whichever local grocery store I'm in, for the sake of convenience. Most often, that's Whole Foods. If there's only white in the bulk bins and I want red, I'll buy it in the package on the shelf, and usually check the verbiage for where it was grown and processed. I like the least handled stuff. OTOH, if I have to drive any distance and search it out, I'd just as soon try Amazon (again, for convenience), and if I don't like what's there, I'll branch out farther online. I'd rather spend five minutes hanging with you guys, and more actually cooking the stuff, than save a dubious dollar (including my gas, depreciation, and time) looking for it cheaper elsewhere. With the kinds of whole grains and seeds you asked about, I don't see a real quality difference between the brands that I've deigned to buy in the first place. With wheat, there is a protein difference, but I still persevere in making bread from the locally available bulk wheat. I have ordered large bags of the high protein wheatberries which I reserve for pizza. That's not so much a quality difference, though, as a crop difference.

Dcarch, you really nailed it this time with a combination of flavors I would love. Sometimes I see a story in your presentations that probably has more to do with my imagination than with your design. This one is Puppy Feeding Time. I still remember what I saw as Plumbbob Cauliflower.

Thanks Silvia, People stuff all kinds of vegetables, not too often with fennels. I don't understand why, perfect shape for stuffing.

Ruthanna, thanks. It seemed right to make this dish. Of all the vegetables, fennel has the most unique flavor, of all the rice, real wild rice has the most personality, and of all the meats, lamb taste really stands out. By combining them, it's like a three part harmony, each part is different, but together they make wonderful music.

Teresa thanks, The gift of wild rice may bring good luck. Yes, if I win the Lotto, Cathy and I will be on the attack on any highbrow food traditions. Oh yes, a case of Two-Buck Chuck and Ketchup to all CF members.
