Thermador Speed Oven? (DM301ES)
Comments (1)Pretty sure the Thermador DM oven is discontinued. You may be able to find one in stock somewhere, but Thermador is no longer making this. It's not great at functioning as a microwave anyway because of the larger oven cavity and low microwave wattage. For example it might take 3-4 times longer to heat something up (5-6 minutes to reheat a cup of coffee). And it can't do microwave popcorn very well. I would recommend the GE Advantium built-in as they now have a shelf rack for say a 9x13 dish. Or my favorite is the Sharp AX-1200 SuperSteam oven with 2 oven racks. My kids love eating veggies now that I have this....See MoreThermador 48' pro with steam - anyone have experience?
Comments (2)No experience...but I was *very* excited when it was first announced, it *really* looks cool (albeit expensive). In the end, I had to admit it was too large for our space, and we went with a much smaller range, But if that hadn't been the case, I would have really pushed for it. I would love to see someone else actually install one...but that probably doesn't help you much, I am sure......See MoreAnyone have a speed oven?
Comments (7)I have a Miele speed oven along with a our 36" oven in our range. I love it! It's our go to oven honestly. Until our remodel we'd only ever had one oven in our 30" range and that was fine. In our remodel we got a 36" range and knew heating up the oven would take more time than our previous 30" oven. We had the space for a speed oven and liked everything we'd read about them. We have the 6100 (maybe the 6200, not sure, I'm not home to check). It has a dial and 9 operating modes. First, it heats up incredibly fast. It lives up to it's name! We've only ever used the convection bake and microwave modes so far, in the 4 mths we've had it, and this oven is worth it for those features alone. I also thought it might be complicated to use but I read the manual (it's not long) and it is very straightforward. I will say we rarely use it as a microwave, so if you want this oven primarily for that (or a lot for that) it might be a bit annoying b/c you have to remove the metal rack before using it in that mode. It's not a big deal to take the rack out, but if you're doing it all the time, it might bug you. We use this oven for pretty much everything-roasted veggies, cookies, baking fish, cooking frozen pizza, cooking frozen anything :-) for that matter. I've never used it for bread or homemade pizza as we tend to use the other oven for that. Anyway, it's a very versatile oven, and I highly recommend it. The only issue I've encountered with the oven is setting the timer. It's easy in theory to do but my oven at least wouldn't respond to my finger touching, pushing or pressing gently on the area where you are supposed to touch/push/press. It was a pain to say the least. Now it works fine, but it took time for it to respond, lots and lots of attempts. Not sure if it was my unit, or if all are like this, but now it works easily every time....See MoreThermador speed oven (MC30WS) or other Speed oven recs?
Comments (24)We have a stack of a Miele CSO and a Miele SpeedOven in a tall cabinet. The SpeedOven is at about eye level. I love the combination and would absolutely recommend it, if you have the space and the budget. But I am sure I could easily adjust to having the SpeedOven under the counter. We have a traditional gas range, and it comes with an "undercounter" oven, of course. We use this oven quite frequently, because of its very powerful infrared broiler. And that requires close inspection of the food while it is in the oven. Only takes a couple of seconds to go from barely brown to catching on fire. If I can handle staring deep into my oven, I am sure I can handle a microwave at the same level. That placement is maybe not ideal, but every kitchen is an exercise in compromises; and this seems to be one of the less annoying ones....See MoreUser
