Thanks, everyone, for the good wishes! I've been enjoying the day, working on my family history scrapbook and ID'ing old photos. (Retirement means you still work all day, and you don't get paid for it, but *sometimes* you can do what you really enjoy, and that makes it all worthwhile!) Lars, the derivation is: MT = empty (i.e., empty nester). I chose that moniker when I first joined the forums because everybody seemed to have "Mom" names in those days, but my kids were all grown up and out on their own. Tricia, it's sunny here today but much colder than it has been--I was getting spoiled, thinking of 40's as "normal" for January. Today it's back to reality, highs in the mid-20's. I hope to get out for a walk while the sun is still shining. Nothing special is planned for tonight's dinner, except the turkey soup I made yesterday. Thanks again! Sue

Thanks so much, everybody! Annie, I DO have time to post today, because the partying was done last night, when DH and I attended the bar mitzvah celebration of a cousin's twin sons. To keep this food-related: after munching on appetizers, we dined on filet mignon, Chilean sea bass, asparagus, roasted potatoes, salad, and fruit-nut bread. For dessert, there were two birthday cakes (chocolate and vanilla) plus make-your-own ice cream sundaes. It was all very wonderful and delicious. Tonight's dinner will certainly pale in comparison, but I think we need something light. My daughter's birthday gift is a cookbook, Quiches, Kugels, and Couscous: My Search for Jewish Cooking in France, by Joan Nathan. It's filled with stories and mouth-watering photos, and I can't wait to dive in. Thanks again for all your good wishes, Sue

Thank you to each and everyone of you that took the time out from your busy lives to wish me a Happy Birthday. So appreciated. No party here or cake. I did have a trip to the hospital for more blood work and afterward picked up lunch from McDonald's and ate it here at home with Amber and Alyssa. However being with them made it special. Sue

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. It was such a full day! First had to take husband to the wound care clinic and then to his family doctor and then back home again. Cheryl and I then picked up Amber and Alyssa and headed to Pizza Shack in another town and met with my son Randy and his soon to be bride Erica. Terri, Mandy and Alex could not join us. I bought the kids their meals and we had a nice visit and great food. I like that there I can get just a plate pizza, lots of toppings and no crust. I love the salad bar there too. Alyssa was happy to give me the birthday card from her and she decorated it with stickers of horses and flowers. She also gave me two small coloring books. Very nice day but so long and tiring. Thanks so much, everyone! My kids are about to arrive for a French Toast Casserole brunch. Then we'll be together for 3 glorious days! Had TWO chocolate tortes (one with raspberry) at my niece's house last night. So happy! Gotta run, though. Love to all!

Thanks again, everyone! During the visit of DD and her partner, who live 3000 miles away, and with my DS joining us, we've had a lovely few days together as a family again. For my birthday, they took me to dinner at a local Afghan restaurant (I had Kabuli, a dish of stewed lamb, rice, carrots, and raisins; also had a great spiced pumpkin appetizer). Afterward, my DS invited us all to his apartment for a dessert of cannoli, macaroons, coffee, and brandy. Yesterday, we went to the art museum and came home for the spinach lasagna I had prepared. We spent another afternoon looking through old family photos. We've played a lot of board games and card games, too. We'll see them off at the airport this afternoon. What a wonderful birthday week!
