Wrong Processor in Acer

I recently bought an acer aspire 5733-6838 which is supposed to have an i3 380m cpu in it but all my diagnostics programs say it actually has an intel core i5-560m which is much faster and will handle more RAM. Which is correct? How could they accidentally ship it with the wrong processor?

Go here and download then install Speccy. This is a neat little free program that will tell you what your computer has inside, re mobo, cpu, ram, video and other items.

Once you have that info you can use your favourite search engine and check the specs of the motherboard used. You may well be able to install more memory (RAM)

It says here that it has up to 4 gigs but can be expanded to 8 (2 sticks of 4 gigs) but you then need to buy 8 and lose those 4 already installed as 2 sticks of 2 gigs each are taking up the only 2 slots available.

Did you buy this new or from another user? Just wondering if they upgraded to the higher CPU.

Looks like maybe you got lucky, the model above as far as I can tell gets the i5-560m installed, and as you said your model should have the other one. I'm sure your diagnostic reports are correct, right click on "Computer" in the start menu select "properties" What does it say there for processor.

Akonaut -- That is exactly the analysis that Cooks Illustrated had -- They liked the pinhole on the Cuisie but the multi bowls on the KA. I have a little Cuisie which sits on the counter for small jobs so I love my larger Cuisie which doesn't sit on the counter and I take out for those times when I need a large food processor. I wouldn't want the large food processor on my counter all the time so I wouldn't get the KA since the small bowl wouldn't help me. From a quality point of view, both the KA and Cuisinart are great -- you can't go wrong with either one. If you have a lot of kitchen space and don't contemplate making sauces, then you would probably be fine with the KA out on the counter. Otherwise, you might be happier with a large Cuisie and a small Cuisie (the small Cuisie is only about $30). Don't spend a lot of time worrying about your decision - they are both great makes.

I also think you should do your research before you purchase a kitchen item that may or may not do what you want it to. We'll be happy to help you, we LOVE to spend other people's money. (grin) As sleevendog mentioned, though, not everyone has a bunch of expendable cash for new and expensive kitchen equipment and gadgets. If you don't like to cook the best tools in the world aren't going to make you love it, I don't think, but if you might kind of like it, good tools will make a difference. I keep telling my son in law that a kitchen is like a garage, there's a big difference between a Dollar Store wrench and Snap On. Now understand, I didn't always have fancy appliances, when I started posting here more than a decade ago my most used kitchen device was a wooden spoon, Larry Englehardt (who used to post here) told me he was amazed at what I could accomplish with a wooden spoon, LOL. I didn't have even a mixer and I was chopping onions with an old hunting/skinning knife of Dad's. It can be done but it's a lot harder. I don't have a mini-processor, so I can't remark on that. I do have a big one but I don't think chopping things is a big plus with it. Everything I chop is either uneven sizes or turns to puree or something. Many things I prefer to chop by hand. Thankfully now I have some good knives. If you might like to cook and just want to try different things, we'd love to help, really we would. Just give us a chance. Between everyone here you can probably even find a lot of easier ways to accomplish things, I know I've learned a LOT. Happy Cooking (I hope). Annie

Unfortunately, he's already slipped to the point where the computer is too much for him, that's why I'm looking for alternatives. I don't think he'd have a problem typing but all the other stuff that comes up with a computer is too much now. So a Chromebook wouldn't help. The place they live hasn't got their act together computer-wise (although they do have good wi-fi now, which is handy for me.) The generation that really insists on computers hasn't quite hit the nursing home yet; I expect it will be different in another 10 years. I don't think he's going to like the laptop keyboard much; I don't like it that much myself. Audio to text is actually an interesting idea; I've never had any experience with that. Worth looking into. Thanks for the suggestions.

Noise in Breville Food Processor

Sorry about your experience. After several back-and-forths with Breville, including one that was not very nice, I got a straight answer. This is it: "This noise only happens with the large bowl. I've tested our sample machines here many times and it makes the same noise as you are reporting. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to eliminate that noise while in use. The noise is coming from the blade and spindle when they first start to rotate." So basically the noise is "the way it is." It does not occur with the 16-cup model; the difference between them is that in the 12-cup model the two main blades connect to the motor with the spindle (in the 16-cup, the blades connect directly without the spindle). I spent some time trying to decide if I could put up with the noise because I like everything else about the processor. But I decided that I would always be annoyed and concerned about it. It really sounds as if something is wrong with the machine. So I went through the hassle of returning it and purchased the Cuisinart 12-cup Elite 2.0 instead.

After doing some more checking on the internet I find others also are finding the i5-560m processor in that particular model even though it says differently on the laptop itself. I'll consider it an unexpected bonus. I assume I can upgrade it to 16 gigs of RAM if I wish instead of 8. Nice.

The down side to 16gb of ram is a hibernate file of maybe 13gb(75%) and a paging file of maybe 24gb(150%) to eat up some hard drive space and add some time to your start up & shut down times. But you sure can open lots of programs, if you don't mind the cpu heat.
