Bosch Ovens: Difference between 500 and 800 Series?

We need a reliable 30" single electric wall convection oven. Ideally, we won't pay more than 2K.

We are considering the 500 or 800 series Bosch. I went to their website and can see the only differences are the look (panel v. knobs), the telescoping shelves, and "Automatic Temperature Conversion for Convection Cooking." I don't know what this feature is, but is it worth the extra $500 for the 800 series? We bake cookies, pizzas, and roast vegetables. We don't eat meat.

You probably know, at least by now, that the 500 series also has the fast preheat. I have been searching and searching through my emails and old forum posts, because I KNOW there is someone who has both a 500 and an 800 series oven in her kitchen. Perhaps Faleash. Anyway, I think the only difference is the knobs vs touch panel, and the lack of telescoping rack. You said the 500 also doesn't do the temperature conversion, but I don't consider that a necessary feature, or even desired for myself.

Did you know you can order the telescoping racks for either oven? You could get 2 or 3 for the price difference in the ovens. I consider knobs a plus, so that's what I'd do in your shoes.

Truthfully, I seriously considered Bosch when I had to replace my oven recently, but was a little turned off by 2 things:

Their service has a less than stellar reputation, although I heard from someone (Mindstorm) whose oven was damaged and she found the manufacturer quite helpful and prompt with helping her.

2) No track record for these new models yet. Mindstorm, who did extensive scientific research on ovens before choosing hers, had the older 'European-born' 700 series Bosch and chose to have the same model put in, even though it was no longer the current model. She was so happy with what she'd had, she didn't want to take a chance on something new and different. Appliance salespeople just didn't know what to tell me about the reliability of these new ovens, as they haven't sold enough and for long enough to have received customer feedback. This tentative attitude from everyone made me a little nervous.

If you do a search for my user name and ovens at the bottom of the appliance and/or kitchen forum pages, you will find a few recent threads, and some happy Bosch owners did chime in. Hope it helps, and best wishes on your oven decision.

Don't have time to look at the specs now, but I recall only the higher-end models have a quick-preheat feature... check this.

Oh my lordie we have started our cottage renovations and it is an enormous undertaking and taking it right back down to the joists. My biggest challenge is respecting that this is a cottage budget and I cannot replicate our home kitchen out at our cottage but that one day this will become our retirement home. My obsessive web crawling and consumer review mparisons only adds another layer of complexity in decision process Here is where we have ended up thus far Already Purchased Fridge Samsung RF4287HARS for 1899.00 DW Bosch SHV68R53UC for $ 1079.99 Range Hood Sirius 36" SU5 90SS 600 FM (owned one for 11 years and absolutely love it) for # 754.94 Where I have ended up thus far appliance wise is as follows and seeking your thoughts based on your personal experiences specific to 30" Wall Oven and matching 30" Warming Drawer and LP Cooktop that will be 36" For purchasing I am leaning towards the below and truly appreciate your thoughts. The only matching I need to watch for is between Single Oven and Warming Drawer as distance between will not create issues between SS look 36" Cooktop Capital Maestro for $ 1393.00 - have no experience with this brand as presently using DCS and love it. We use high burner all of the time and I like what I am reading thus far but do not know if anyone has had any type of issues with Capital 30" Single Wall Oven - KA Architect II KEBS109B for $ 2114.10 have never owned KA and presently own Dacor and no affinity to stay with the brand 30" Matching Warming Drawer / possible will use panel here instead of SS - KA Architect II KEWS105B for $ 1079.00. I am bothered that everywhere I have checked there are no timers to auto shut off and last thing I need to do is leave the cottage and drive back to different state with out someone turning it off Also I need to find an "affordable/dependable" undercounter wine fridge that the price is reasonable that will be in our island. I want drain as the power can cut off in winter there for over a week and need it to be able to drain and not all over our hardwood floors I lived and died by this site when we built our house 11 years ago and truly look forward to your thoughts everyone

Hi everyone, Thanks to all who responded to my questions about Bosch dishwasher. I was already planning to buy Bosch, but my KD comments about Bosch made me doubt my choice. Anyhow, after reading comments from all of you, my final choice has been made about dishwasher. It is going to be Bosch 800 series!! Anyhow, can I use any dishwasher detergent for Bosch or is there any particular brand recommended? I prefer to use liquid detergent. Iharpie......I am a tea drinker and all of my mugs and cups have tea stains. But twice a week I put 1/2 tsp. of bleach (which is meant for white clothes) in each mug and let the mugs sit for a couple of minutes and then you wash the mugs with dish soap. The 800 series has the Bosch wifi while the Benchmark does not appear to. Anyone know the value of the Bosch Home Connect? We were planning on the Benchmark with the side hinge but now I'm wondering about that ... paying that much more for a side hinge and no Home Connect... does that service even matter?

I have the 500 - it has the temperature conversion on the "recipe" setting (which I've never used) and the fast pre-heat. Otherwise, apart from the racks, which I find perfectly adequate, the difference is the knobs: which were the reason I chose the 500. I really don't do well with "all touch sensitive" controls.

I'm really happy with my 500. Had it about 18 months now.

We have the 500 series oven with the oven and mw as one unit needing 50 amps. I haven't used the temp conversion but I have definitely used the fast pre heat and it is fast. The regular pre heat is no slouch either. Originally I had been leaning toward the 800 because I do like the e touch but budget and DH won out on this.

My only complaint about the 500 is that you need to spin the knob to come up with the time for the timer function. I forget and keep spinning it only to discover that I have been going the wrong way with it. We had thought about the telescoping racks too but so far haven't had the need for them in the two months we have had the unit.

We have the 500 series and I"m happy with it. I love to bake, and the convection bake setting is marvelous. Moist cakes. Beautiful breads. I've had no trouble crisping things, either; someone on a different thread had wondered about crisping vis-a-vis the internal heating element.

I had thought the oven was slow, and fiddled with the calibration myself at first. A serviceman came and checked it, though, and the trouble was my old oven thermometer.

I also find the racks to be perfectly fine.
