BR-111 Amendoim Hard-Wood Floor
Comments (9)aggietexan, if you send me pictures to my email address, I can set them up in one of the two photo sites I belong to that I have not used in a long time. I would add pictures and send the link here and clicking the link would allow the pictures to show. I do not know how to place pictures inside a post but I do know how to do links. I would love to see pictures. Just click my lynn2006 page and you will see a link to click my email. I am glad you are happy with your new floors. Do they have some red in them? I would love to see some close up of the knots since maybe they are tiny and will not bother me. I do love the pics of the Amendoim floors on the BR-111 website. How long have you had the floors? What color change can you see if you have a carpet on the floor?...See MoreConfused over oiling of hardwood flooring
Comments (2)I believe duChateau is oil finished. There are quite a few different suppliers of oil finishes and of pre-finished floors with oil finish. I have done very few floors with the new generation of oil finishes. I'm preparing to use Rubio Monocoat on my own floor to try to determine whether it performs as well as advertised. Each supplier generally has it's own maintenance products including a cleaning product and something to treat the finish with periodically. The advantages of oil are that it doesn't have the plastic appearance and can be refreshed without moving all the furniture. The disadvantages are that it requires regular maintenance and probably isn't as water resistant as a urethane finish....See MoreRadiant Flooring under hardwood floors in kitchen
Comments (5)Check out www.wideplankflooring.com They provide good info. We just installed radiant heat under pine boards ranging from 4 - 12 inches wide. All the info on the web advises against doing so, however we talked with people who have done it with no troubles. We are keeping our water temp. around 100 degrees. I think some of the horror stories probably had very hot water flowing through, like 180 degrees. The newer radiant heat systems run cooler water. The floors have been installed for 2 months now, the heat feels great and I haven't seen any signs of cupping, etc....See MoreHardwood Floor Confusion : (
Comments (8)And just for fun, matte finishes have a long history of "looking hazy". I personally prefer a low(er) gloss satin. It will dull down inside of 1-2 years anyways. The haze seen on matte floors NEVER goes away (not until you sand it off and do it again). Satin is JUST fine for "rustic". Please don't try to stain maple. It just isn't fun. If you want to keep it pale, your refinisher can apply a UV protection (like Loba UV Protect) with the WATER BASED polyurethane. Maple often turns a STRONG yellow when exposed to sunlight. This is made worse by using OIL based polyurethane (it ambers all by itself = yellow + yellow = orange). By staying away from oil based, you remove half of the nasty yellow/orange associated with maple. If you use the UV Protect, you get rid of another 50% of what remains = you have eliminated 75% of the "ugly yellow" that maple is known for. It's the way I would go with maple. As for red oak, you have to like the cinnamon/peach colour of natural red oak to go natural with a water based polyurethane. That's why these floors are often stained - even just slightly....See Moremrtimewise
