computer looses connection.

Our computer keeps loosing connection for just seconds when we are on some websites, and most others also. The little hour glass will pop up and we will not be able to do anything for a minute or so...what is wrong? I say we need a new router, My husband says if your router is blinking it is working, and no new router is needed. What is wrong? Please help us.

Connect the computer directly to the modem and see if the issue goes away. If it does then you can conclude it's a router issue. If that does not work then you would consider reinstalling the wireless driver form device manager.

You also might consider following the procedure as outlined below:

Copy and paste the text between the stars into Notepad.

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.
Double-click flush.bat file to run it. Your computer will reboot.

Note: For Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click flush.bat and select "Run as Administrator".

Also consider, if you haven't already done so, unplug the power source to your router and modem for about 30 seconds. Plug the modem back in and let boot up. Then do the same for the router. It resolves most issues for me.

john4291 If your wanting to use one monitor - one keyboard - one mouse and 2 computers than you can do what I did. I use a kvm switch. It's simple to hook up. On 2 occasions I've had the mouse and keyboard not recognized.It was easy to fix. I just had to turn of the pc and unplug the power for about 2 minutes. With power back on everything was working. agree I would plug all into the router that is much safer anyway since the router will or should have a firewall in it. If it were the ones hooked to the router that had the problem it could be a bad router but if the one you have issues with is not plugged into the router that is what I would try first. One of the first things an ISP tech will tell you is power down your modem and router, disconnect them from all power let set for several minutes then replug and try. Let us know if plugging that one into the router works. You always want to put the router between the pc and the modem to give you the added protection in the router.

Just don't try doing this with a regular usb cable!! I prefer to use a usb flash thumb drive to move them if you are not networking them. I never cared much for the usb transfer cables.

Connecting 2 computers to 1 printer

Ha, no other takers. Try the following. First, I'll assume the two PCs have distinct names and are connected to a router (any combination of WIFI, ethernet or both). Also I assume both have the needed drivers installed for the printer. Pick one PC to be "home base". Connect the printer to it and then install the printer as a network printer as follows: Control Panel Printers and Faxes Add a Printer (Printer Wizard Starts) Next Choose "A network printer or a printer attached to another computer" - Then Next Choose - Browse for a Printer - Then Next You'll See the printer, highlight it. Next Choose yes to "Do you want this as default printer" Done. STOP HERE Before leaving this PC, go back to the Printers and Faxes page under COntrol Panel, Highlight the printer you just added, click on Share This Printer, then give it a name and then OK. Go to the Second PC, repeat all the same steps. When doing Browse for a Printer, you'll see the printer on the other PC, choose that and continue until you reach STOP HERE. You should now have a networked printer. If I goofed something up or it doesn't work, I'm sure you'll let me know. Good luck.

that type of freeze up or hesitation is not necessarily losing connection if your router is showing continuous connection then you have some other problem, could be low on memory, or have too many things running and using up all your resources.
agree always try a power down then power up in sequence. I power off the pc the modem and router then power up modem fully then router fully then pc. That allows everything to reset and get a new setting and make sure it is all on the same page basically.

Browser used?

Connection: 3G system? Wireless provider? Satellite? DSL? Cable?

Is this a new event or has it been reoccurring for some time?

If it is new:

Has there been anything changed on your system? Downloaded? Installed? Reconfigured?

Has their been a guest user on the system?

When is the last time you did a full system maintenance?

Along Mikie's thought, when is the last time you did a complete system scan; anti-virus, and malware?
