WHY am I the only one who can't see a site?

One of my client's has a web site that I've been trying to view. No matter what I do, I get the dreaded "Page cannot be displayed" error. Here's a list of what I've tried so far.

I've typed the address in my browser, googled it and clicked the link, and also clicked a link in emails.

Thinking it might be a flash issue (it's a flash based site), I uninstalled and reinstalled flash.

Thinking it might be a Vista/flash issue, I tried viewing it on my XP system. No luck.

Thinking it might be an IE issue, I downloaded Firefox and tried that. Didn't help.

I am on satellite Internet, but others using the same satellite company can see it.

I'm thinking the only other option is my ISP (I'll call them today), but I am willing to entertain any other suggestions...

If we had a link we might be able to duplicate your experience. Or at least comment on whether or not we can view the mystery site

Do you have a firewall on your computer that is blocking it?

Check the colors against your furniture and such. If you are starting with the walls first then I suggest you do like I did. After painting my 25"walls by myself, yeah really scary up there, I did the following: We purchased a rug that had all our favorite colors and put it in our family room as the anchor. I went to store and picked one of those pallet cards that gives a group of colors that go together. Mine are the Biltmore Estate colors. All my favorites are there with even a few I would never have thought of. And it turns out all the colors in the pallet are actually in the rug we got. It took a few months before we realized that there were colonial blue areas in the rug that actually matched the blue we used in one room. I used the neutral tan for my entry and stairwell, used a lighter version of the tan for my kitchen, family and hallways. I used the red in my livingroom, hunter green in dining and the blue in my upstairs bonus room. I just did my guest bath using the same blue in the rug andthe bonus room and it is actually my unexpected color in the house. It matches all the other colors but you would never really think to see it. But together they all match really well. I carry my colors in my purse and use them all the time when I am out and about and tempted to get something for the house. So pick that tan and find a pallet that goes with it, it really helped me a lot.

Did you get message rejected when you started a new thread? Did you have a title in the subject line? I've never had a message rejected because my photo coding was wrong. It happens to me for 3 reasons: 1. when you reply to a thread too soon after posting a comment. Go back to your message and type something different in the subject line, hit preview, then hit submit. 2. when you didn't type anything in the subject line. Go back and type something in the subject line, hit preview, then hit submit. 3. when you put something in the "Optional Link URL" box but didn't type anything in the "name of the Link" box. Go back, type something in the box, hit preview, then submit. You are NOT posting your pic in the "Optional Link URL" box. You should be pasting it into the "Mesage" box along with your typed words.

If you think this one is bad....come over to the Decorative and Tole Painting forum....we have 3 sides... Gallery, Discussions, and Conversations. ha Most of us post to the Gallery because the pictures stay longer before they get bumped, we use Discussions to talk about painting stuff although some people do post pics there too, and then we use Conversations for everyday chatting. I agree...I think it's just up to the people who are using the forum to agree on how it's used. I notice some forums never even use their galleries. It's sad that you've been reprimanded for posting in the "wrong" place, but I do understand on Garden Junk. There are so many people posting that stuff gets bumped daily and they don't want a picture post bumped for a conversation post. We usually try to let people know there are other sides to each forum because maybe they don't know. I didn't notice it either for about the first 3 months. ha On the painting forum we don't care as long as they are posting! =) We like lots of pics. ~Anj

That's the other thing... I tried disabling the firewall to no avail.

I wasn't sure if I should post a link or not in case it seemed like I was trying to drive traffic elsewhere (which I'm NOT!). I emailed the link to a few dozen people yesterday and nobody had a problem but me.

Oh, here are two other things I tried. One friend emailed me a page from the site. The email appeared empty on my end and generated a script error. Another friend sent me the link to a non-flash page on the site, but I couldn't get to that either.

Appreciate any and all suggestions.

The page loads here. So do all the other pages. One difference that is deliberately set is the Home page fades in, the rest pop up as any normal page will.

There is minimal HTML coding as it refers to a js script for content.

You might try a disk cleanup using Crap Cleaner and see if that helps. If you do not have this be sure to remove the tick where it wants to install the Yahoo toolbar, other than that there is nothing to fear from this program.

All I get is a blank white page with Firefox and java scripts turned off.
Do you have the latest version of java Recommended Version 6 Update 3

I tried the Crap Cleaner on my XP machine since I'm getting ready to give it to my mom anyway. :)
It didn't work - as in, it didn't make me able to see the site. The problem I have with the Crap Cleaner theory is that I'm having the same issue on an XP and on my Vista.

I have a brand new Vista laptop, so I tried accessing the site from that last night just in case my desktop is just "junked up." Wouldn't work on the laptop either.

I have the latest version of Java.

FWIW, I am able to ping the site, which tells me the site is not being blocked (like by my ISP). Correct?

I did add the site to my Trusted Sites, too. Now instead of the Page error, I just get a blank white page like Randy.

okwriter, I, too, have a satellite provider (I'll bet we have the same one), and I am unable to view the site with any of the three browsers I have: Opera, Firefox, and IE. As I understand from a users' forum that I frequent, this is not an unheard of happening. If the site is hosted by GoDaddy, it is often blocked for users of this ISP. If it's the same one I have, GOOD LUCK if you call them! :-(

Sounds like the wildblue satellite drops the virtual domain name and then accessing any virtual domain with an ip number only just wont get to it.

If you ping a virtual domain name the ping doesnt actually tell you anything other than the server you ping'd is online. The 'virtual' domain name is assigned to a specific folder. One IP# can supply multiple 'virtual domain names'.

I sometimes configure my home servers so there is no default page for the IP#, gotta have the domain name to get in.

grandms, are you on Wildblue?

I went to a Wildblue form and had some of those folks check last night, and they all loaded the site fine. But I'm going to follow up on the GoDaddy thing.

Darn, and just when I was about to give up, I have another lead to follows. :-)

I called the coop that hosts my Wildblue account, and they told me to call Tech Support. I'd really rather not do that...

Yep, you got it. Unfortunately, I am a direct customer and not through a coop. My present contract is up in May, and since Verizon wireless broadband is now available where I live, I'm seriously thinking of giving that a try before I decide to throw the sat dish and modem into the lake where I live. LOL!

By the way, I don't think the other sat provider is really much better.

I have Verizon DSL and am unable to get it.
