Question about face book on a different computer

My computer is still not fixed. If the computer guy does not respond in the next few days, hubby will try to fix it. Updating to Windows 7 from XP and adding Office 2007 + getting AVAST back etc.

But my questiion is if I want Face Book, can I put it on a laptop, and with different ID name, etc to keep anyone from finding out informatiion from my desk top which has my on line banking and credit card information?

Hope this is clear.

Anything that is on your computer is likely available to any computer guy working on it regardless of Facebook. That's why I never store anything critical like banking info directly on my computer. It's not clear to me why Facebook being on the computer would change anything. Maybe I'm missing the point you are trying to make, but can you amplify, please?

I am sorry, what I mean is to leave my desktop computer alone and put Facebook on a laptop computer. Talking about 2 different (seperate) computers.

Canokie, There are many variables that can determine whether you need a vent. If I was going to use a vent on a cold frame I would use one of the heat activated types. I will attach a link that shows what I'm talking about. Many say they work well. I have 2 that I will put in my greenhouse if I ever get it finished. On my lean to I'm installing auto operated louvers and fans thaI have never had heat issues with either of my cold frames. I keep a hi/low thermometer in each. My lean to greenhouse has way more heat issues than my cold frames ever have. On mornings where the temps have been as low as 28 degrees F I have propped the tops open 1-2 inches. This has prevented over heating along with preventing the plants from freezing. The cold frame with the tinted glass is easier to control the heat in. If I leave it closed and the temps reach 80 the max in the cold frame will be upper 90's. I have never seen the need for vents on my cold frames so far. I also dug down 6 inches deep inside the cold frame. This helps to moderate the temps also. Another thing you can do if you don't have tinted glass is to lay a shade cloth over the glass. Hi Sandie, I used to post on the KT a long time ago. I do not think you got an adequate answer about Facebook, First have your child open their page, scroll to the bottom banner at the end of the page. It will tell you about Privacy and there is Help link there, click . In Help screen, type how to block people. It will come up with specific directions. Please read their privacy policy also at the bottom banner and how to achieve what you want. To the right top of the FB screen, there is a lock symbol, open and set the settings to friends only and any other settings to limit contact. On chat make sure it is set for friends only. I wouild also look at your child's friend list and make sure they are really known, not just friended because of a request. Hope this helps.

Sheri, I listened to the song and I like the singer's voice and the music, but I'm not sure that I would've ever picked up on the association of that song with Silverstein's book, except for the title. Was it something that immediately came to you? I'm wondering now if the book was actually aimed at children or adolescent readers in the first place. I know it was marketed as such and can be found in children's sections of bookstores and libraries, and the illustrations are cartoon-type drawings that might draw young readers to it; but somehow it doesn't seem like a story that would arrest many young readers I've known, except perhaps the most sensitive and perceptive ones. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems more to me to be a book for adult readers that just happens to look like a kids' book. After reading the synopsis and reviews of Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, I think I'll give it a pass. Iris, I think leaving out Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a shame, but luckily his popularity isn't dependent on some snooty writers' list. I suspect that most of the lists by writers who claim such-and-such classics influenced them are disingenuous. If they weren't afraid of appearing less than well read, they might admit their main influences were more along the lines of pulp fiction. Ever notice how similar these danged lists always are? I think they just copy each other.

Sorry JoAnn, I answered blfenton's question because here on Houzz, I have clicked to follow many folks and just didn't remember if I had followed her/him. I felt a bit guilty because I could have been someone creating anxiety to blfenton. I'm pretty sure that other than Sylvia, I have no crossover friends with Facebook, so felt no guilt or compulsion to speak up about your Facebook follower. On Facebook, you control who can follow you and see who is currently following you. You set your privacy settings to match your comfort level. If you click the down pointing arrow in the blue Facebook toolbar, choose Settings. If you choose Followers, you can see who is following you. If you wish to edit your privacy settings, choose Privacy from the left sidebar. You can see who sees your stuff, who can look you up and who can contact you. This is also where you make changes to only allow those that you are comfortable with 'seeing your stuff'. Obviously if someone cannot see your stuff (posts), they cannot follow you.

I understood that you were talking about two separate computers. I still don't understand what Facebook has to do with your banking info whatever computer it's installed on. Or why having another ID name would do anything. So...can you take another run at this?

I have to say that I don't quite understand what you're asking. Facebook is a website and you can access it like any other website. I don't think there's anything to "put on" a computer; simply type in your user name and password. You should be able to access it with any computer connected to the internet.

I think what she means is should she change all of her user names and passwords for FaceBook etc. so no one can get into her information from her other computer. If so, this is why I NEVER mark any box that says "Keep Me Logged In" or "Remember Me on this Computer"!! I only use web based mail and always double check to make sure all boxes are unmarked when I login at any website!!!

I would definately change all my passwords before having that computer worked on and make sure you write down the new passwords and put them somewhere safe, but NEVER on the computer.

I don't understand what facebook might have to do with anyone's banking or credit cards.

Sorry, I just got my computer up and running again. Hubby worked hard to do so. Deceided to not do face book.
