I said a prayer or two that they would get along before getting out of bed this morning. McLoving followed me into the bathroom and Boa heard me getting up and walked around the corner. McLoving stood her ground this time. They were four feet away from each other and having hissing fits, but neither one would back down. After hissing at each other for a few minutes they both walked away. They are too funny. That is the closest they have been to each other since McLoving arrived. I tried to bribe her out of the carrier Friday night with the Cat Sitter DVD. She wanted to run up to the TV but watched it from her carrier like she was at a drive-in. Boa hasn't caterwauled since McLoving arrived. I know McLoving will fill the void it's just going to take time. I tried calling Juanita last night but got her voice mail so I left her a message. I think she told me she is working on Mondays? She is much more affectionate than Bear was. She nose dives me all over when she's in bed with me. Last night she kept licking my face. I guess it must have looked dirty to her. That rough tongue on the cheek tickles. Maybe she was showering me with kisses for giving her a new home. She hasn't explored the upstairs yet. I think she is overwhelmed with just the first floor, sunroom and basement. She is in for a big surprise! Jenny

The laptop's all set up - and dd received it on Tuesday. For now we'll try open office. She does have a desktop pc with word if she needs it. And at school they use Mac's. So no matter what we use at home, it won't be quite the same as in school. abreeze - thanks for the link. It's beyond anything she or I will do now - but one or both of us might get more versed in powerpoint over time. That's a helpful comparison. I created recovery disks - but when I went to create a password reset disk, the laptop kept asking me to insert a disk. There was a disk in there. I even switched disks in case one was bad. But it was birthday day - so I figured I'd get to this later. Well - it came back and bit me in the butt. Birthday night had some trauma. After dinner, my mother fell backwards and hit her head on the sidewalk. I took her to the ER. My daughter was distraught - and the parent controls had logged her off at 9pm. Husband thought this was a reasonable exception - so he logged into the admin account for her. She immediately eliminated the time controls. No big deal, I thought - I'll reset them another time. Somehow she tricked my husband into entering the admin password again - told him she'd restarted the computer by accident. Well - that sneak had gotten him to enter the password in a field that allowed her to change it. She changed the passwords and locked us out of the laptop. So this is where that password reset disk would have been helpful - to override what she did and reset a new admin password. So this is partly a note to people about the important of creating a password reset disk (or set up on flash drive). I'd never even heard of this before. We're at the beach with my daughter and friend - it's instead of a birthday party. So we're not having the confrontation with this weekend. Monday - we tell her she has to hand back the reins for the admin account (or no laptop). The joys of parenting preteens. It took her less than 24 hours to violate most of the terms of the contract she signed. Sure wish I'd had that reset password disk. When I get admin control back, I'll be sure to create one somehow. Lynn if you are happy with McAfee then keep it, I in fact have McAfee on one of my windows computers because I too get it free with my Verizon fios, when I get tired of it or if something goes wacky with it I know I can always just start using one of the free ones like Avast, would not use the new AVG8. There have in the past been problems with McAfee, they have sent out some updates that caused problems on some computers, but they were pretty quick to fix them. I do not use their firewall I use an older version of zonealarm pro. Site advisor has nothing to do with your McAFee suite it is an add on for your browser, you download it from the site I provided in the other thread and simply select which browser you are using and use the download for that browser, Since you are currently using IE get the one that says for Ie, when you decide to get firefox then go and get the one that says for firefox it will then add it to firefox also. it is super simple to do basically one click. It is free for everyone. as to your husbands laptop that would be totally up to you or him. IF he wants to pay for trend micro it is a good program however I think there are free versions that can handle the job like the Avast free. I would probably do that instead of putting AOL on there if he does not need it, AOL is bad about digging into the innards of the pc and when not needed I don't advise putting it on. Now to your daughters pc are you sure you have the McAfee suite actually installed on that pc? I would try logging in with your name since it is under your subscription often times the main user has to do that to enable subscriptions. IF you can not get it to work then make sure you completely remove it from the pc before you install any other antivirus program that goes for any of the computers always completely remove the prior antivirus, you do not want more than one on a pc. McAfee has a detailed directions page on how to uninstall their products. this is the directions you may want to print and keep available. 1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel". 2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe). This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool) 3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one! In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming 4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site or your ISP, NOT from any CD that you may have. Well, I do think the bride and groom are going up to camp for a few days before the wedding. But when the relatives arrive, they will be staying in the hotel with everyone. Both of our sons will share a room; our younger son is best man. The bride will share a room with her sister, who will be matron of honor. They had a favorite, very popular double campsite in Big Sur that they really wanted, but they needed 2 adjoining ones to accommodate the expected 50 guests, and they could only get one. (The whole family was online registering for those 2 sites the minute they opened them for reservations.) However, they had already put money down to hold their alternate site which is also beautiful. We will use it; it has gorgeous big redwoods and views of the river, I think. I wanted to discourage them from camping that week, picturing a bride full of mosquito bites and a dress crushed into their car and tent with all the equipment they would need, but they have it all figured out and this is what they want. We want them to be happy. (My brother is driving up, so we have enlisted their help in transporting the wedding dress to avoid their cramming it into the car with their camping gear.) The rehearsal dinner is also at a camp site, and the local camp vendor is going to cater it. I assume hamburgers or BBQ chicken. We will all arrive just in time to get to the rehearsal dinner as it is quite a trek to get there, even by plane. No one lives locally, which would have been a big help. The bride and her mother and our son are planning the locales, decorations, menu and everything. We are paying the bill. Hopefully, this will be the wedding of our bride's dreams. The reception is at their favorite restaurant in Big Sur.
