I reformatted and have lost my Yahoo IM archive

XP here.

After I reformatted I downloaded Yahoo IM. It is a different one than what I had b4, and there is no message archive. I'm thinking if I download the right one, I may be able to see the archived messages.

I don't know what version I have. How does one know/tell?

The one I had b4, had the member name and then several icons behind each name...that I could email, call, etc, etc...not sure what else.

What version might I be speaking of needing? Anyone have a link please?

Will I need to uninstall/and/or delete the existing one b4 downloading a newer version?

Here is a link, be aware yahoo has made changes so an older version may not work for everything, the latest version is # 8.1.0.413 give it a shot.

Yes un-install the version you are not going to use.Before downloading an older one.

Oh, I forgot to list the other two locations! I'm not sure if it was tequila that inspired the agave as it also was on Bali. I've seen the eggshell agaves in the Caribbean too...often with the shells dyed bright colors. I always thought them very fun. The monkey simply cracked me up "dressed" (or in its' state of undress)like that. The lampshade was on Kho Chang Island, Thailand.

Sue, I would uninstall it before installing an older version. I would use revo uninstaller or appremover instead of the control panel add/remove app though. Here are links: Revo Uninstaller AppRemover either will do a better job than the control panel app.

I live in Appalachian Ohio in mine country, and in some parts of our county you need a rider for mines on your home owner's policy. I have to have one at a property I own in town since that section was built over old mines. I also have an old coal bank on my rural property. It was mined privately by an individual, by pick and I'd expect it not to have conventional looking excavating, either. There may be no rhyme or reason why this wasn't just filled in and a piece of wood thrown over it and left to rot. It could be anything, actually including an old dug well or spring or rain water cistern where the bricks had been removed and used for landscaping or something, lol. That's almost the exact measurements for my spring cache basin near the house.

How can I tell which one I have now? I'm thinking the one I have now is older anyway...since it doesn't have that icon to call someone's computer behind each members name. Since I don't know which one it is that I need, I don't want to download what I already have.

In the upper right hand corner of the main Messenger window, click on HELP. Then click ABOUT YAHOO MESSENGER, you will find the version number there.

If you have reformatted & reinstalled xp, I can only hope you have visted the windows update page, did someone help you re-install?

Mercyfulgoodness yes. Dell always helps me reformat when I get things fpuled up up beyond all recognition. I'm so glad to have the extended warranty. It has baled me out so many times.

Yes, I got AVG free first and updates, then Windows updates, Firefox, printer installed, Wordperfect, and other things as I find I need them.

Another question...Do I need something like Zone Alarm, if I have it in the Windows Service pack already?

I see my IM is 8.1.0.421

Yes, you should have a firewall other than the MS firewall. Both Zone Alarm and Comodo firewalls are good. Download whichever one you want, and then before installing, disable the MS firewall. Don't want them clashing with each other.

Yikes! How do I do that? You know now that I am challenged, so be sure and dumb it down for me all you can.

Might want to hold off on loading an optional firewall untill you get your high speed connection figured out. Firewalls can sometimes add a level of difficulties with connections.

Something like 'Windows Defender' along with your AVG virus program will supplement windows firewall till then.

Will do.

I'm trying Yahoo 8.1.0.402 and it is taking about 50 minutes and I'm not even sure it is the right one. I'll keep trying until I find the right one. 84% now.

I won't even go try the highspeed anymore...until I get it fixed. This dial up (with the phone line being good at the time) and an accelerator isn't half bad...considering all the ISP problems I've had off and on all year it seems.

Mikie's suggestion is a good one.

Go ahead and download one of the free firewalls recommended, but hold off on installing. I'm assuming you download to a special folder or to your desktop.
When you are ready to install ZA or Comodo, go to Control Panel and open Security Center. Scroll down to "Manage Security Settings. . ." and click on Windows Firewall. There you can turn it off (not recommended by MS). Then install the other firewall that you downloaded. Once you do that, then the Security Center will show that you have a firewall enabled.

I thought I'd go check that out now. I don't see Security Center in the Control Panel under either Classic or Category view. What now? I have XP.

I also know that the Yahoo IM I just downloaded is not the one I was looking for.

Back to the drawing board....

Don't know. I have XP also, and it is the last icon in the category view, directly under "Accessibility Options". Under classic view do you have Windows Firewall? If so, click on that and you can disable the Windows Firewall that way.
