AVG email scanner

Can someone help me. I have free AVG and it has the email scanner on. Every once in awhile I see that the email scanner pops up on my bottom toolbar saying they are scanning. Sometimes then I receive an email sometimes I do not. When I do not do you think they have found something and stopped an email from coming in. I wish I could see if I received something because sometimes lately people have said they sent me an email and I have not received it.

when that happens it is usually that it was determined to be junk or spam and your spam/junk filter just filters it out for you, that is why we have spam filters on our email clients, they are just doing their job.

If it finds an infected email I believe AVG will alert you, I am not using it now I am using AVAST but I am sure one of the AVG users will be able to tell you that.

I use AVG with email scanner on and I've never seen it scanning in the bottom toolbar or anywhere else. I'm still using 7.5 though. So maybe the newer version does that? Sandy

you will need to know which version of AVG you have if it is the new version 8 AVG and if it is the free or paid version. If this is a new built pc you should probably let the builder troubleshoot it. Here is a link to the forums at AVG where you could ask them this question, however you will need to provide the version info and give them your pc info also. There is a dedicated email scanner which in version 8 you can turn off to see if that would change how your mail is acting. That way you might be able to determine if it is working ok with out the AVG email scanner then you know what might possibly be conflicting. Here is a link that might be useful: AVG forum

I downloaded v8 over the weekend and today was the first time I was able to tinker with it. I too chose not to allow the toolbar. As a representative of those of us who are still DUN users, I found that I could do a Google search and be to a desired link long before the little Vista eddy disappeared and an AVG generated icon appeared. The one truly undesirable issue that occurs when you disable the LS is the AVG icon located on the Notification Area sports a red alert with a white exclamation point. It is rather annoying. DA

I see on ONE of their sites version 7.5.1.43 is 11.8 MB (avgas-setup-7.5.1.43.exe) dtd June 14, 2007 I see version 7.5.488 is 27.2 MB (avg75free_488a1138.exe) dtd Sept 21,2007 The email function must be the difference among other things. My version .43 shows about 6 MB if you can believe any of that MB.

Mine only seems to scan when OE is polling for new mail. I do use AVG 8.0.175 and I have OE set to check for new emails every hour when it's open. I just felt that it was working as designed.
