Is the AVG Toolbar and Link Scanner a worth while tool to have, and did you choose to include it with AVG8?

When I installed AVG8 I asked not to have the toolbar nor link scanner.

It has no toolbar, but the link scanner was active so I left it be to see if it slowed down things and it hasnt, so far that I've noticed anyhow.

I never see any popup or any indication that its doing anykind of link scans. I assume its doing them silently. It does have a check box in configurations to disable the link scan.

Below link is to some info about limited life, free full versions of virus programs that some might find useful.

There's also some info there for AVG8 trial version registration thats good till dec 1/2008 which I wasnt aware of and am trying that now for a feel.

The links for AVG8 Pro were to .cz but the usa english current trial version download accepts the key.

Mickie, When I installed AVG v8 I thought I clicked not to have the AVG toolbar or Link Scanner. But I got it anyhow. I have removed it from showing, so it is at least out of my sight. Like you, I don't know if LS is working or not.

I saw it working on the page of Yahoo search results. For a moment after the page loads, right at the end of each each search return links is a gray question mark that disappear down the page in rapid succession. Almost too fast to get the mouse pointer over one to see its a java script avg item.

Let me see if I can capture one...

By George, it worked! I didn't catch any of the ? marks but they were there.

I'll have to play with it some more and see if I want to keep it.

I downloaded v8 over the weekend and today was the first time I was able to tinker with it. I too chose not to allow the toolbar.

As a representative of those of us who are still DUN users, I found that I could do a Google search and be to a desired link long before the little Vista eddy disappeared and an AVG generated icon appeared.

The one truly undesirable issue that occurs when you disable the LS is the AVG icon located on the Notification Area sports a red alert with a white exclamation point. It is rather annoying.

I have the new version also and never noticed the Scanner. I haven't gotten any question marks. What is this thing supposed to do?
