not that I have seen on any other forums, they have been having some update problems so that may be what you are encountering. They were still sending out the updates and are to continue till Dec. give it a day or so and keep trying to do updates, it may just be a glitch.

Thanks RC, I did check their forum yesterday but there was nothing about it. Hard to post a question over there. I see so many that get the response: You have not followed proper question asking protocol. Without the least amount of effort to help answer the question. It's much friendlier and more helpful over here.

yes I hear that a lot about that forum, that is not an official forum it is as it says just a group set up as support, the free version of course does not get provided support as the paid version does, there is an official AVG forum for the paid version.
However there are AVG support areas on several of the tech forums, I know there is one over on Castlecops and I believe on Gladiator too or they did have one there.

I looked around at all the ones I have been on today and have not seen anything unusual mentioned for AVG 7.5 other than some update problems going out.

AVG 8 is fine, I've had it for quite a while now. I did not care for the link scanner, (you will have to select Custom install and de-select link scanner if you choose something else) there are better scanners out there and less obtrusive...I know RC has mentioned some other options. There is an ongoing issue with the application (AVG) not connecting to the update server, but if you try again manually it does connect eventually âº

Good to know. I've tried many times. Did see it DL once but then same old problem and needed to close before installing.

When I hovered over icon I got [7.5.524][270.7.3/1694][9/26/2008] so it looks like last update was the 26th. And this one is labeled priority. S.

Have you rebooted the computer since the 26th? I sometimes had updates to AVG 7.5 that prompted me to restart the computer.

Yes, I've been turning it off at night lately so it boots every morning. S.

Finally got it to update all the way through from the system tray. Now I'm running a scan to make sure I haven't picked up any nasties in the meantime. Thanks all for the help. Sandy

It stopped again the next day and same old problem since. This AM I finally found a solution on the forum--someone posted a Q. that amazingly got a real answer.

Just finished installing again, then uninstalled old (as per instructions) then ran updates. Back in business, hopefully till it quits for good 12/31. Sandy

Taking the demise of v7.5 on face value I have been recommending to users not to wait to change to a new AV.

I base this recommendation on two thoughts. First, if there is a mad rush to change will the servers of other applications (read here in my case Avast) be able to handle the unprecedented demand. Second, why wait to for any possible problems, conflicts or confusion when protection is always imperative. Why not get these problems resolved at a convenient pace?

My only conclusion is users may be thinking that AVG will reconsider and extend v7.5. I seriously doubt it.
