Hello all,

Two points to discuss here.

Firstly, like all companies we have to develop a strategy to get our users past the end of old windows editions. MS will stop supporting these older operating systems and we need to move along and provide software that works best on the newer OSs.

Secondly we need to encourage users to upgrade to our newer products so that we can remain focused on a select number of products, and keep improving these products.

The result is ever-changing dates for releases, end of support dates, end of definition updates downloads etc, etc. its not chaos - but the different dates and changes do cause unwanted confusion.

As you will all remember from AVG 7... There will be a final date, then a REALLY final date. We will be fair to our customers and we will give due notice of changes that may seriously affect the users.

May 31st is VERY close. I can assure you that this date will not be the end of 7.5. However the 31.12.08 date is not cast in stone - though I consider it a solid date. AVG may bring termination of specific sevices or products forward, but if we do we will do so responsibly and by giving fair notice.

We will make official announcements HERE on this forum and on our corporate website, and resellers will be emailed directly.

I apologise for the differing information given by sales and by other sources, but I stand by the 31.12.08 date for now, and will put any changes here.

AVG seems to have shot themselves in the foot this time. Progress means updates of course. I upgraded to AVG8 and somewhere around that time minor troubles started. For a few weeks things were not right and I was unable to pinpoint the cause. I remove a few programs and brought a few back and tried a few others, one that is no longer on my computer is AVG.

Not suggesting they are the cause but with the 'adjustments' I have made my issues seem to be resolved. No doubt I will return to AVG somewhere down the road but for now I am quite happy without it.

I've been using AVG 7.5 in hopes that by 12/31/08 (or whenever they discontinue support) they will have problems ironed out. I have an AMD processor and the update seemed to have extra problems with those.

So far, it updates every day. Sandy

I will go get the model number in a moment. Now it runs for about 5 seconds then dies. Everytime i pull the plug out it has a little gas on it but what worries me is that it also looks like there is oil on it but not quite. it looks like black gas its not very thick.

I am unfortunately seeing still a lot of negative reports on AVG8 on the other forums, in fact I am going to be changing one of my windows pcs from McAfee to something else, and with all the complaints still I am going to go with Avast for now. I think they will eventually get all the kinks worked out of version 8, they need to because a lot of people have jumped ship over the recent problems. If I was going with AVG8 I would definitely follow the install instructions from their FAQ and NOT add on the extras.

yes I hear that a lot about that forum, that is not an official forum it is as it says just a group set up as support, the free version of course does not get provided support as the paid version does, there is an official AVG forum for the paid version. However there are AVG support areas on several of the tech forums, I know there is one over on Castlecops and I believe on Gladiator too or they did have one there. this is the link to the one at Castlecops Grisoft AVG I looked around at all the ones I have been on today and have not seen anything unusual mentioned for AVG 7.5 other than some update problems going out.

Hello,
I too am having problems since updating to AVG8 and am wondering about removing and reinstalling 7.5. What is the general consensus here and thanks,

Did anybody else have problems with Firefox crashing after installing AVG8? (FF 2.0.0.14 my version)

There have been prior discussions regaring AVG8 on other threads here at the Forum with a lot of information shared. Perhaps an query on the search engine located on the homepage will assist in answering all your concerns.

Having said that, I find v8 bloated and cumbersome. I really don't like the Link Scanner and have disabled it. Admittedly, my Vista system works well with it and I have no concerns of any type In comparison to prior versions, I just don't like it. I guess that's what makes the world go round.

Do you mind sharing what program you are using in place of AVG8 ? And ,
do you recommend removing and reinstalling 7?

I have disabled the link scanner also - but I dislike the red exclamation on the icon in the tray.

AVG8 is certainly not dialup friendly!

I have success with PC Tools AntiVirus (free). When I first got Vista, PC Tools was the only AntiVirus that would work, after deleting Windows Defender.
