As stated above, it is the trouble caused with the spark ignitor that can occur if you are on a circuit with other items switching on and off - microwave especially. Doesn't spark when it is turned off, just doesn't always spark right when turned on. GFI circuits can also be a problem. Making sure the polarity and ground are correct is another key when running a new circuit. You're right, there really isn't a lot of current for most of the parts. 40 watt light less than 1/2 amp. Convection oven fan less than 1 amp. Spark ignitors negligible. Like said just above, the oven coils are the culprit - about 3 amps each. The OP said this was a 48 RNB. At least two could be on at the same time - 1 each oven. Depending on config, up to four since the same lighter is used for griddles and grills too. The new circuit being 20 amps is not overkill. Must be at least 15. Many codes require kitchen circuits to be 20.

Kay- I purchased my CC from Treavor in Boston (I am in NY). Frankly having him there to take care of service makes it worth every penny compared to dealing with a local appliance store (it might also be beneficial for you tax wise). Between the BS and the CC I think you would be fine with either one. I find the CC burners to be incredibly useful. They go from burning hell hot to low enough to sit a paper plate on top of them. I cannot see any advantage to having different sized burners with this much control. When comparing the two I think looks are a major deciding factor (for me the BS looked too commercial, I like the clean lines on the CC).

First, I want to convince you to move your cooktop away from the island, and to the wall. An island set-up makes for much more expensive and problematic venting. Also, your island has to be big enough to have landing area, and space not to splatter others with cooking. Also, the idea that cooking on an island is more "social" is, in reality, not true. Prepping on the island is more social. Much more time is spent prepping than cooking. And cooking means you are looking down at your pots and pans, not up at your friends/family. Then there's the splattering issue. Plus the island venting with its interrupted sight lines, larger hood size requirements, higher cfms requirements. Regarding M's points about cooktops vs. rangetops, I agree. Another issue with cooktops (vs. rangetops) is that cooktops require a counter cut-out specific to the model. If you need to replace the cooktop at some time in the future, you will have a hard time finding one with that exact cutout, even within the same brand, as sizes change over the years. A rangetop however is just dropped into the 30" space, with no cutout of the counter needed. If you prefer a cooktop instead of a rangetop (a rangetop is more expensive, a frequent deciding factor), and you said you are flexible about the size, I would definitely get the 36" cooktop over the 30". The problem with a 30" cooktop is that a good amount of the cooktop's real estate is taken up by the knobs, which makes the burners more crowded, and more difficult to use several pots at a time. You can avoid that by getting the 36" width instead. Go to a store with 30" cooktops on display, bring a couple of your pots with you, and you will see what I mean. Re the 2 brands you linked - for a cooktop or rangetop, I'd want a Bluestar. If it were a range, I'd choose the Wolf, since Bluestar has had some problems frequently reported on this forum with their range's ovens. But everyone loves the Bluestar open star-shaped burners and cast iron top.

I have a 36" RNB and BS vent hood and both I would categorize as perfectly fine and the customer service fine for the most part, but lacking in other areas. Honestly, I wonder if my stove and hood were from Bluestar's Land of Misfit Stoves. I REALLY, REALLY wanted to love the items, so it crushes me that they are not living up to my expectations, especially with all the money and time I put into them. The stove's burner bowls (the square part that surrounds the grate) arrived terribly discolored. They do not have an even finish on them, and it looks like one especially has great all over it. One burner would never start, and then when it did, it would create this huge "fireball." None of us would use that burner. They came it fix that. It still does it sometimes, but for the most part that has been remedied. Yay, Bluestar. What is sooooooo annoying, is that the burners click all the time when cooking. The sound you hear when your turn on the burner never goes away. A guy came ti fix it once, said everything was installed properly, jiggled things enough that it didn't do it for a day, but they both do it all the time. Every time I hear that noise, it makes me sad that I have the stove I do. The vent collects grease that drops onto my counter overnight all the time. It collects at the top right screw. I called BS and the CSR asked for a picture, which I texted to him. He said people were looking into it and he would get back to me, but that was three weeks ago. I also paid for a repairman to come out and show me what I was doing wrong, and he couldn't find anything. It is VERY level, and I clean everything. He said it was a design flaw and he took pictures to send the BS rep. Again, two weeks and nothing. The fallen grease is dangerously close to my floor. I also surreptitiously remove the grease that hangs on that screw, because my husband was against BS anything. We wanted me to go with a Wolf stove, so it kills me that I am having all these troubles. There are many things I do like about the stove, but they are masked by the troubles. I don't think they are a terrible company, and I am trying not to flame them here. I am not that type of person. Just when I was researching, I saw NOTHING but positives about BS ranges, so I thought I would put down my alternate experience.
