momto4kids - I don't have much luck with eBay, so I didn't even try, but I think it would be so cool for someone to have success. If that happens, guess it's meant to be :)

I'm trying to figure out how I can count *several* items as *one* ;) I just couldn't make up my mind!

Sorry Deb... but there's lots of other things I'm sure.

This swap is good timing for me, there's a big craft show this weekend, right across the street from the cute little shop I'm working in. It will be fun looking for something unique. I'm wishing I could take some pic's to tease with.....

wow Roxanne!! super exciting!! I received 30 mixed seeds from ebay! I was very excited, but now not so!! only 3 out of 18 that i put in paper towels have puffed and did germinate for me, the rest sadly did not make it and I lost due to mold. Frustrating. Live and learn. you must be in heaven and I'd do the same if I were you.. lol. Chuy

Thx again for your expertise pirate_girl. Ok, so this morning, I saw that my wee shoot (exactly as pictured above) had a rotten tip, even though the soil I put it in -- while I was learning what to do next -- was very dry. So I took it to a neighborhood plant master and got some pumice and more advice. So here's my current tactics: It's a hot sunny day here, so I'm drying out a pumice/potting soil mix on a baking tray in the sun. I trimmed off the tiny rotten tip and cut the rest of the shoot into thirds. Each of the new pieces has far more base surface area than the tip pictured in my original shoot. I'm keeping track of which way is "up" for these cuttings. I've made three small, high-drainage mini-pots out of plastic rubbermaid cups I had around. The drainage holes are for the future. I won't be watering them for quite some time. I intend to put the three shoot cuttings into the dried-out pumice/potting mix and leave them be. I sure hope the sun-baking and increased root surface area is enough to prevent rot. I don't know what else I could do to prevent rot. So that's my plan for now. Any comments are welcome and appreciated.

How can I stop grit from shooting out of my flue pipe?

Has anyone inspected the chimney ? Muffler tape will work but the thing is it was never intended to wrap furnace pipes because furnace pipes do not normally spill out grit. Are your flue pipes galvanized ? If kept up a 20 year old furnace is not old. They actually made a good furnace in those days. i wouldn't blame the furnace just yet. there might be something else causing this. I've seen one insident that is very rare might not be your problem but i was with my journeyman on a call. White grit was on the flue pipes. took us 8 months to figure it out. The basement was very damp. Very hard ground water in the area. As the moist air condensed on the flue pipes it left behind the calcium from the water. The flue pipe turned white. you don't say where the furnuce is located. If the grit collects underneath i'd think, Moisture ? It's a stab in the dark. See what your oil guy says. Oh yah. You might not want to do this but taste it. Is it chalky ? If it is chalky it's calcium. Actually if you can write your name in it it is calcium. As i said before see what your oil guy says. After all he is the one you are paying.

I drove through a different area yesterday, for Nick's football game, near where my sister lives and where I used to live. I am not kidding, I probably could have counted a hundred for sale signs. Maybe even more. And that is the supposedly desirable area. This is the boonies. That's the problem - this area wasn't built up during the housing boom so there isn't excess inventory. What is on the market in my range are the unsellables - one bad location (next to the biggest 24 hour gas station in town, at the busiest intersection), one has a cesspool, one is a peeling Victorian (I don't want to deal with old peeling possibly lead paint with two young children). This is the type of area where people don't move in and out of very often, they just move around and no one is moving around since there is no place to move to. There really isn't a neighboring town south (there's a big mountain) and I don't really want to go any further north but even if I did - those towns have even less to offer.

I am holding my breath on a couple of things for my partner. I rarely buy on ebay anymore, it has gotten so big and so commercial. But every once in a while I check it out to see what's there...

I'm using ebay too, for a couple of items. Sometimes I look for 'buy it now' items so I don't have to wait just to see someone snipe something I need, at the last minute.

Linda, ebay is great for things like my vintage Sony tape player/radio that I've gotten used to. I like the buttons where they are and nothing new on the market is like it! But I agree, most things are overpriced, even on shipping.

Amazon has auctions now too, and I find the prices at Amazon to be lower than eBay - at least when I want to buy something. I recently got some old Pogo books (and toys) on eBay, although I got some from Amazon as well. EBay is hit or miss, and shipping is often way too high. Some sellers make their money there on inflated shipping, whereas Amazon determines shipping costs itself - at least for what I've sold.
