How to increase the virtual memory size?

I keep getting the BSOD of a virtual memory dump several times a day or evening. It happens without warning. I was just getting updates from Micrsoft site when it happened again.Some times the blue screen doesn't appear , the screen goes black and my monitor puts up the no signal notice when the tower is shut down

How can I increase the size of the virtual memory so this stops happening?

I think it is control panel, system, advanced tab, performance settings, advanced, virtual memory.

I would suspect your hard drive has gone bad.

I stand mostly corrected by foodonastump. According to page 31.7 of the 2003 ASHRAE Handbook - HVAC Applications: 'Model building codes, such as the IMC, and standards, such as NFPA Standard 96, have set minimum air velocity for exhaust ducts at 1500 fpm. ... ASHRAE research (Kuehn 1998) indicates that there is no basis for specifying 1500 fpm minimum duct velocity for commercial kitchen ventilation, but rather supports reducing NFPA Standard 96 recommendations to 500 fpm. This change allows flexibility for design of variable-speed exhaust systems and retrofitting older systems, though current design practice for new single-speed systems will generally continue to use design duct velocity around 1500 fpm.' The point here is that at the minimum variable speed setting (for commercial kitchens), the flow velocity should be 500 fpm. Most residential variable speed systems will go down to practically zero fpm, so at those velocities, one would be advised to not be broiling hamburger. Grease effluent consists of various sized particles and vapor. The vapor will not condense out until sufficiently cooled. The particles will either be affected by the centrifugal action of the baffles, or not. In the latter case I think the turbulence in the ducting would have to be extreme to compete with the baffles. I don't have Kuehn's paper so subtleties and assumptions should be checked for relevancy to residential use. A synopsis of the paper's results are available on line. For an 8mp camera, I finally got a 2gb card and shoot RAW, you don't need quite as large a card for JPG. Still, at events, I sometimes do shoot in JPG and was filling a 1gb card in 1/2 hour, the 2gb card filled up in about an hour doing some street shots and a parade in RAW. It's best to set the camera to the finest quality possible unless they are shots where you need a whole lot but the quality isn't critical. You can't ever get lost quality back on your important shots. Then there are the bigger cards. The reason I don't want to get into larger sizes is that if the card gets corrupted, you lose more photos, plus they are a lot more expensive. I have had good luck with my Kingston cards which were cheap and slower, now I have one Sandisk Ultra II, both seem to be pretty reliable. There was trouble with some brands. Those things are so tiny, it would be so easy to lose the extra ones. I need a better plan to try to avoid that. Be sure to order the right card for the cam. They either take CompactFlash or SD (or proprietary memory sticks), and it would be easy to make a mistake on that.

Did you know your house is listed twice at realtor.com? MLS 514935 virtual tour, 4 Bed, 3.5 Bath MLS 566806 no virtual tour, 4 Bed, 3 Bath - 2,870 Sq. Ft. I decided to try the tour with the realtor.com link and was surprised that I was actually able to view it. Let me tell you, my computer was screaming! Both processors were getting hot, I could hear the fans go on and off. With my 2 Intel Xeon's at 3.20 GHZ each, and 2 gigs of memory, I would hate to see someone with a less computer try to view. What was she thinking? Next, I found her descriptions to be a bit wordy, it was hard trying to read and look at the video and was easier to bring it up as a gallery, then move it on my own. In the back of farm there is a tree or two down. If the camera was in a different spot, they probably wouldn't have been in the shot. I would remove this. She needs to go back and read what she has written: description for home office / formal living room - space features crown molding, beautiful french doors opening up to the front porch and 10 foot ceiling. No need for an office? This room could just as easily be a formal living room with it's proximity to the front door, hickory flooring, and the same beautiful details as the rest of this home - French should be a capital F, I would also reword it. Family room - one level living with plenty of room to spare on the upper and lower level. Decorated with fashionable colors and with an incredible floor plan. Family room shot 2 - this angle shows the breakfast area beyond - then it goes to a wall. Why wasn't it taken more to the left to actually see the dining area? Master - large & spacious - pans to a wall. Kids room - anal but the electric cord from the spider man lamp is what my eye was drawn to. I would push the dresser left a little to hide the outlet. Childrens bathroom - fun colors yet tastefully decorated - perfect for that whimsical side in all of us or super easy to change to your own taste bonus room - large & spacious - pans to a wall. If someone is able to view the tour they will see your beautiful kitchen and an over all gorgeous house. We were looking for a house like this as I love the outside. Unfortunately I couldn't find one for sale in our price range to see the floor plan. She also mentions the floor plan, have you thought to include the floor plans in the listing?

you could run belarc and see what it says about your hard drive health, if it is the hard drive you should get everything backed up or image the drive asap.

have you opened the case and cleaned it out recently? you could have some heat issues creeping in to the picture.

Hard drive is less than 1 year old. Heat is not an issue , the side of the case is off and my house is air conditioned set at 74 degrees. Tower is cleaned out no dust bunnies to see at all. Case was throughly cleaned out when son was here in Sept. due to hurricane evacuation from FL. KeysThis is what Belarc had to say about hard drives:

Somewehre in the past I was told to make the Initial setting
at 2 X the Ram.
Start - Control Panel - Open System Icon - General Tab - Read the size of your Ram - Click The Advance Tab - Setting - Click Advance Tab - Change - My Ram is 640 so I set my Initial Setting at
1280 and my Maximum is set at 2560. Click SET - OK

Thanks for the steps. My original setting was 2046 for the top number and and 4092 for the bottom number. I increased the top number only to 3046. I did not touch the bottom number. Only time will tell if it works.

what are your event viewer logs saying? I would check there and see what it is indicating and the event id numbers.

this is what the individual entries will look like when you double click on them, the only ones to look at are the red alert ones.

you want to focus on the event ID and source, and description.

I was reply to this when the screen went black and the computer rebooted. I don't know how to get the screen print I saved of the event viewer in this thread. I may have to shut it down and let it sit for a while.
